“We’re particularly drawn to celebrations that resist a template: keeping traditions that mean something, abandoning those that don’t, and making up new ones along the way”
XFLOS is a Melbourne-based floral art and design studio founded by artist and florist Kayla Moon.
Unconventional by nature, XFLOS approaches flowers less as decoration and more as a creative medium — a way of responding to people, energy, space and a moment in time. Each project begins differently, shaped by the personalities involved rather than a prescribed aesthetic or idea of what flowers should be.
Coming from a punk background rather than a traditional floristry pathway, Kayla built XFLOS through experimentation, instinct and a willingness to question the rules. That spirit still sits at the centre of the studio today: beautiful doesn’t have to mean polished, abundance doesn’t always mean more, and wedding flowers don’t have to look like wedding flowers.
At its core, XFLOS is a practice in world-building. While flowers remain its primary language, the studio travels far beyond traditional floristry — into music, fashion, workshops, festivals, installations, late-night events and community gatherings. Flowers become one element within a larger atmosphere: something people can move through, gather around and remember.
For weddings, that same approach becomes deeply personal. XFLOS responds to the couple — their energy, clothes, references, venue, season, music and the way they want the day to feel. They’re particularly drawn to celebrations that resist a template: keeping traditions that mean something, abandoning those that don’t, and making up new ones along the way. The result is a floral world that belongs specifically to the people inside it.
The studio’s visual language can move between sculptural and unruly, minimal and strange, romantic and graphic. There is no fixed XFLOS wedding aesthetic; the thread is the way we see.
At its heart, XFLOS is interested in what flowers can communicate, and in creating temporary worlds around them — considered, expressive, alive and a little unexpected.
