Solo dates? So last season. Just ask Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds who famously met on a double date (and the rest is history). Now, Tinder’s latest feature, Double Date, is flipping the dating script. Designed for low-pressure connections and high-energy banter, this new group-first tool lets you and a friend browse, swipe, and chat with other dynamic duos together. The idea? Make dating a little less awkward, taking the pressure off one-on-one and instead having it feel more like a spontaneous, relaxed group hang — with potential!
How it plays out: profiles appear side by side, complete with bios and photos, giving you and your friend just enough context to spark curiosity. A match is made when at least one person from each pair swipes right. Gen Z and younger Millennials are the most excited about the feature and this new way of dating. According to Tinder’s data, nearly 90% of Double Date profiles come from users under 29, and users were three times more than likely to swipe right on a double date than an individual user. It’s already gaining traction for fun group activities like gigs, rooftop drinks, restaurant-hopping, mini golf, and trivia nights — low-pressure plans that make it easy to say yes. After all, what’s more romantic than meeting someone while cracking up with your bestie by your side?
