Maria is an award-winning Portuguese documentary photographer. She contributes to renowned publications such as The Guardian and Reuters, as well as esteemed institutions like the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation. At the age of six, she got her first Polaroid camera and has since been immersed in the world of visual and performing arts.
Prior to discovering her deep passion for photography, she studied and worked as an architect. This experience profoundly influences her work, infusing it with elements from cinema, poetry, art, music, architecture, fashion, and design. These inspirations continually challenge her to improve and reinvent herself.
Her focus is on creating timeless, analog-inspired photography that blends a documentary style with editorial fashion. She aims to capture the beauty of light and the poetry of everyday life, along with the details that tell the story of your day.
Maria takes great pleasure in capturing special moments like your wedding day in a natural way, avoiding forced poses and always presenting herself as a friend among guests. She feels incredibly fortunate to do something she loves, meeting extraordinary people every day and traveling around the world. At times, she forgets it is an actual job.
Memories hold great importance to her, which is why the project is named Atelier Memória, the Portuguese word for “memory”.
