Wedding videography is a genre all of its own. As in most genres, trends come and go, as does technology. New doesn’t necessarily mean better, and in the case of these videographers, they gravitate towards older technology, namely Super 8 film.
Originally released in 1965, Super 8 is a film format created by Kodak. Cheaper and easier to work with than previous film formats, the introduction of Super 8 was seen as the moment that movie-making became available to the masses.
Videographers who use Super 8 film produce videos that share a common aesthetic, even if the subject matter is completely different. Film recording adds a sense of nostalgia and a vaguely ethereal sense of wonder.
We’ve put together a list of 15 top Super 8 videographers, and here they are…
Amanda Jae
Amanda Jae spent years giving her clients the picture-perfect images that society told them they needed. Now, she focuses on genuine moments that people will want to look back on for years to come. Shying away from posed photography, Amanda’s old soul was attracted to the authentic nature of Super 8 film and she has never looked back!
Cameron Dever
While Cameron Dever does work with digital too, her love of Super 8 has made her work an extension of her free spirit. Favoring honest and free photography and videography, Cameron wants her work to feel as authentic and limitless as her beloved home in the American West. She records the world as she sees it, and her creations are genuine and refreshingly honest.
Films by Madeleine
Madeleine is passionate about capturing the journey of life in the most honest and real manner possible. It’s the small details that make life as lovely and memorable as it is, and Madeleine wants to capture as many as she can at your wedding celebration!
Forever to the Moon
Alex behind Forever to the Moon is an expert in adventure-packed elopements. She plans, executes, and documents your utterly unique elopement. Her use of super 8 film fits perfectly into her ‘simplistic is magic’ ethos. On her website, Alex writes that “I tirelessly try to live a life full of meaningful experiences, love, and compassion in everything I do and relationships that fill me up.”
Gather Films
Gather Films is owned and operated by Carli, a passionate Nevada resident. Her love of Super 8 film stems from her belief that while digital cameras might capture information, they do not capture the true emotion of an event like a wedding. Carli says that Super 8 film “preserves the intangible, inexplicable magic” of your wedding that digital videography could never capture.
Hannah Shea
Based in Portland, Hannah Shea is a self-confessed lover of the authentic nature of film photography and videography. Her love started at age seven with a simple disposable film camera from CVS and her passion and technical ability with film cameras have both grown and developed from there.
Jay and Mack Films
Jay and Mack make «Non-Traditional Films All About the Vibe». The couple is based in San Diego, and they’ve made it their mission to capture the emotion of a wedding in the most authentic medium that they know of – film videography. They like to get to know their clients before their cameras start rolling and the results are sensational.
Jonas Peterson
Jonas Peterson believes in the «healing power of having your story told». He has been in the industry for over 12 years, and in that time, has perfected his craft. His use of Super 8 film started as a home project with his wife, and once they saw how meaningful the images they had captured were, they knew that it was just what the wedding industry needed.
Laurel Wedding Films
Laurel, like so many Super 8 film enthusiasts, hates the awkward and cheesy nature of posed wedding photography. It glosses over the couple’s unique attributes and her love of storytelling is why Laurel prefers Super 8 film. That ability to capture the truly meaningful moments is why she loves her craft so much, and her abilities are why her clients love her so much!
Lo McCarville
As a documenter of «honest images of love», Lo McCarville thrives on the ability to honestly and accurately record the hidden moments. Weddings are not special because of the dress, flowers, and food. They’re special because of the people that attend and the love between them. This is what Lo wants to capture in film forever.
Maddy Belize
Maddy Belize captures «poetry in motion». Her Instagram feed is filled with images that show a natural and authentic connection between the couples in the pictures, and in an abstract sort of sense, with the person behind the camera.
Monique Bianca
Monique Bianca’s passion for photography started when she was just a child. Her love of nostalgia and reminiscing inspired her use of Super 8 film. She finds endless inspiration in her beloved California coast and feels a need to document the passages of love.
Joy-Monet Photography
Made up of a wife and husband team Rachel and Nathan, Joy-Monet photography specializes in «capturing raw & honest moments». As a happily married couple, they understand love and the wedding process which gives them an edge in capturing the moments that matter. Their use of Super 8 compounds their authentic aesthetic.
Regan Scaife
Regan’s website says «I am inspired by capturing authentic connections, candid moments, & intimate details. I strive to document each individual story in a way that is just as unique as they are.» Her ability to capture emotion in her Super 8 videography is cherished by her clients as they have a beautifully honest memory of their special day, forever preserved on film.

Sara Welch has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, Vogue, and Martha Stewart Weddings. Proudly written on Sara’s website is “I'm about stopping time, when it feels like it’s moving too fast.” We love this quote because it perfectly sums up her approach to her craft and it’s that honest nature that makes her creations so beautiful.
