Elle and Warwick's Australian wedding was the epitome of modern elegance, blending the charm of the vineyards with exquisite sculptural floral arrangements. The venue was Fraser Gallop Estate, the couple's favorite winery, set in a picturesque region where every corner exudes an atmosphere of romance and sophistication. Amongst the French inspired garden, with breathtaking views of the tranquil lake and rolling vineyards, the couple exchanged nuptials in an intimate afternoon ceremony. Guests were wined and dined with an enchanting marquee reception, where tables spilled with artistically arranged blue and rust blooms, and canopied by dramatic suspended floral installations. A lesson in true modernity, captured beautifully by our talented member, Sarah Tonkin.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
We first met at the university when we were 19 and 20. We were studying the same undergraduate but had not crossed paths until late in the degree, when we ended up in some units together and met through a mutual friend. Initially, we started spending time together as friends, but there was a lot of chemistry between us, so we decided to start dating about 6 months later when we booked an international holiday together to Vietnam.
The Proposal
Warwick planned a beautiful weekend away in Margaret River, where he organized for us to have a long lunch at one of our favorite wineries, followed by some more wine and cheese on the rooftop of our Airbnb overlooking the ocean at Gracetown Bay. As the sun was setting, he suggested we go for a walk on the beach out to the point. Despite being in the middle of winter, the weather was perfect, and I remember the sky being a magical blend of pink and purple. It was down at the beach, with no one around, that he got down on one knee. It was so private and absolutely perfect for us.
Our Wedding
The Venue
We love and frequently visit Margaret River in the south-west of Western Australia, so when it came to planning our wedding, a venue in that area immediately felt right. Fraser Gallop Estate is our favorite winery in the region, and the aesthetic of their estate aligns perfectly with our vision. Initially, we were told that they were no longer hosting weddings, so we started considering alternatives in the area but felt like nothing compared to this truly special spot. We were so happy when, after some persistence and a stroke of good luck, the owner agreed to continue hosting a reduced number of weddings per season, and we were chosen as one of them.
The Ceremony
An outdoor garden ceremony was located in front of the iconic Fraser Gallop Estate house, overlooking a lake and the beautiful rolling vineyard scenery. The view was one of the main reasons for selecting this venue, so it was really important to us to incorporate this element into our ceremony.
The Reception
A marque reception was located adjacent to the ceremony, featuring an open-sided, clear marque and long tables draped with artistic florals and banquet dining. We opted not to have a bridal table and instead placed ourselves halfway along the middle long table so that we could feel connected with all of our friends and family throughout the reception.
Our Favorite Moment
It’s so difficult to pick only one, but it would have to be hearing each other's personalized vows, which were both really heartfelt and personal. Although it is more difficult to construct personalized vows, hearing a message from your partner during the ceremony makes the whole experience so much more special, and I would definitely recommend it to others considering whether to do it.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
The brief was understated chic, with an emphasis on details such as form, fabric and textures. The final design was made from layers of luxurious Italian silk crepe and featured a draped-detail off-shoulder bodice with removable long sleeves, a column skirt and leg split, a scooped low back with lots of buttons, and a dramatic two-meter-long train. I couldn’t have been happier with the final result and the entire experience of working with the beautiful team from Pallas – they made the entire dress-making journey such a relaxed and enjoyable one.
Our Advice
For The Planning Process
Ask others for all the advice and vendor recommendations that you can get, it helps to streamline hours spent researching. Also, prioritize the things that matter most and work backwards from there. It’s so easy to get caught up on all the little, insignificant details, so it's good to be able to remind yourself of the things that matter and those that don’t.
For On The Day
The day goes by so quickly, so be sure to take a moment by yourselves to pause and take it all in. It doesn’t need to be long, but we found it to be so special.
For Post-Wedding
Be sure to give yourself some time to relax and reflect before returning to work and everyday life. Being a destination wedding, we were around friends and family for several days before and after the celebration, which was absolutely incredible, but it wasn’t until we hoped on the plane to our honeymoon in Europe that we really had a chance to recap and reminisce on the magic of the past few days.
