From New York to Paris, Tokyo and everything in between, the Fall/ Winter ’24 ready-to-wear collections came to be a season of no rules. Designers intuitively forwent high-octane drama in place for a more considered, understated sensibility; a welcomed shift from the clickbait driven runways of recent seasons. Silhouettes showed restraint and sophistication, a sense of poise and elegance - yet still enigmatic and conversation pieces in their own right. Through this refinement emerged an undeniably strong season for bridalwear; graceful styles with a subtle touch of fashion edge to inspire the most discerning of women.
Sculpted volume perched upon hips created an ultra-feminine appeal - think panniers seen at Simone Rocha, CGDS, Marques’Almeida and Huishan Zhang or micro bubble skirts a la Coperni and Dauphinette NYC. Soft, plumed textures dominated the collections with delicate feathers spotted at the likes of Givenchy, Erdem and David Koma, plumose fringing at Carven, 16 Arlington and Tory Burch, and soft frayed edges at The Row and Jason Wu. Otherworldly, futuristic drapery and cuts embodying a Dune-like essence emerged at Courrèges, Schiaparelli, Mugler, Khaite, Alaia and Roksanda, while our love for romantic sheer fabrications lived on at Versace, Ludovic de Saint Sernin and Ermanno Scervino.
