Ava and Tommy's wedding was less is more. The bride and groom focused on simplicity, minimalism and conciseness, but at the same time, their celebration was scale, filled with exquisite luxury and modern style. We talked to Ava to find out more details of such a stunning wedding, as well as the love story of the couple.
How did you two meet?
We met while living in New York City. I was bartending, he was a customer. I asked him out, and the rest is history!
What do you do for a living and for fun?
Tommy works in finance in Rockefeller Center in NYC and I work for my family’s Catering & Events company in Connecticut. We love to travel, go to amazing restaurants, relax at the beach and entertain at our new house.
What was the concept behind your wedding and how did you find your inspiration?
I wanted our wedding to feel curated but effortless. Modern but timeless. I am a trendy person by nature, so I incorporated some trendy design elements like fun bar signage and lounge furniture while keeping the big picture simple. The design was minimal and classic.
Where was your wedding? Why did you choose this venue?
Our wedding was at our family friend’s garden center in North Branford, CT. I wanted to build an event from the ground up, so that is exactly what we did. We started with an empty field and wound up with a full-blown venue.
How many guests did you have?
165. We have lots of friends and family!
Tell us about your outfits.
I wore a very, very simple silk crepe gown from Alexandra Grecco and accessorized with a pearl headband and veil. My husband wore a black tuxedo and bowtie.
What was your first dance song?
Harvest Moon by Neil Young. My husband and I are the type to drink wine and slow dance in the kitchen, so this song just had a special place in our hearts.
What flowers did you choose for the bride’s bouquet?
Oversized white roses. They stand the test of time.
What was your wedding cake like?
We actually didn’t have a wedding cake. Instead, we just did a grazing dessert and cappuccino station.
Are there any vendors that you would like to tell us a little more about?
My family’s catering company, Forks & Fingers CT, really held it all together. We oversee install, breakdown and everything in between. Our team works really hard. Our photographer, Abigail Lewis was such a dream come true and the photos are exactly how we envisioned. We still get comments on our band, Atomic Funk Project, to this day! They were absolutely incredible and kept our guests dancing and singing all night long.
