The exhibition Edward Hopper’s New York, which is currently on view at the Whitney Museum of American Art, showcases the artist’s fascination with the city and takes a comprehensive look at his life and work. Thanks to The Whitney, you now have a chance to enjoy Hopper’s early sketches, prints, illustrations, and late paintings, in which New York serves as a backdrop. The exhibition brings together many of the artist's iconic city pictures as well as lesser-known examples. Martine Gutierrez: Supremacy
Supremacy is not your typical exhibition but a unique photo performance created by Martine Gutierrez, an American visual artist and LGBTQ rights activist. The art piece, which looks more like a regular brand advertisement, is displayed on the facade of 95 Horatio Street. In Martine Gutierrez’s Supremacy, a brunette model (the artist herself) lies on a pink rug in a “broken doll” pose. She is attacked by Barbie-like figurines, representing sexist ideals of perfection. Well, no wonder the whole composition of Supremacy resembles a crime scene. This unique public art piece continues Gutierrez’s investigation of how media propagates archetypes of women, beauty, and authenticity. The project is on display through March 2023.

Demented Words
Demented Words is a long-anticipated solo exhibition by American neo-conceptual artist Jenny Holzer. Since the 1970s, the artist has been using language as her primary medium, mobilizing poetic, political, and personal texts to reflect on our experiences of power, despair, idealism, joy, and nonsense. Currently, Hauser & Wirth New York displays Holzer’s most recent works, including paintings and so-called “curse tablets” — deliberately aged metal fragments with social media messages stamped on them. The centerpiece of the exhibition is a swinging electronic sign with tweets posted by Donald Trump during his presidency. Demented Words is truly a project like no other. The exhibition is on view through 29 October, so don’t miss your chance!

Close Enough
Close Enough showcases art pieces by 12 contemporary women photographers of Magnum Photos, the pioneering photography collective. The exhibition features more than 150 works, each telling diverse and personal stories. Photographer Sabiha Çimen explores the experiences of young Islamic women in Turkey, Bieke Depoorter dedicated her project to young club performer Agata, while Alessandra Sanguinetti tells the story of two Argentinean cousins as they evolve from their childhood into adulthood. The exhibition coincides with the 75th anniversary of Magnum Photos’ founding. For all these years, the collective has been documenting world events, people, places, daily life, and culture. Thierry Mugler: Couturissime
Couturissime is an upcoming retrospective that explores the fascinating universe of French designer Thierry Mugler, one of the most daring and innovative creators of the late 20th century. Mugler’s designs are loved and proudly worn by A-list celebrities, such as Beyoncé, Cardi B, and Kim Kardashian. The anticipated exhibition, which will be on view in November, will present nearly 130 outfits ranging from haute couture pieces to stage costumes, alongside custom accessories, sketches, installations, videos, and images by leading fashion photographers.
