“On a wedding day I do everything with your experience in mind. I won't keep you posing for hours. I'd much rather you enjoyed yourselves and let me photograph you as you really are”
Damian Zurowski photographs weddings as records of people in relationship to each other. A wedding puts everyone who has shaped a couple into one room for a few hours, and that soft chaos, the emotion and ritual and family history all happening at once, is what he is there for.
For most of the day he works as an observer, moving through the room and photographing what is unfolding rather than arranging it. For portraits he steps in and directs. He knows what he wants from them, and he gets couples there in a way that feels fun rather than stiff.
He shoots digital and 35mm film, and at every wedding he looks for images that stand on their own as pictures, not only as documentation. Sometimes that means a different camera, a scanner, or simply a frame nobody expected. Couples receive every photograph a wedding needs, and a gallery that could hang on a wall.
Damian takes on a limited number of weddings each year, so each one gets his full attention. He gets to know every couple properly and builds the experience around them, never approaching two weddings the same way.
