Set against the timeless charm of the mountaintop vistas and cobbled paths of Ravello in Italy's Amalfi Coast, Robert and Rumailah’s wedding was a living, breathing love story. Ten years, three children, and a thousand red roses later, the couple brought their vision to life in a way that was deeply personal, wildly stylish, and emotionally rich. Every detail, from the hand-curated bridal looks to the handwritten letters tucked beneath dinner plates, spoke of intention and heart. Wild red roses cascaded from the altar and danced along the reception tables, creating a world that felt both enchanted and unmistakably theirs.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
I was 21, just starting out in my career, and Robert was 27—already a few steps into his own—when I found myself nervously sitting in a glass-walled meeting room in the World Trade Center Amsterdam for a job interview. That’s when he walked by. Our eyes met—just for a second—but it felt like something shifted. He kept strolling past the glass wall, eventually more than a dozen times, sneaking glances. Right after, he went to my future manager and asked, “If you don’t hire her, can I at least get her number?” Before I even left the building, I received a LinkedIn request from Robert Tuuk. I secretly hoped to see him on my first day, but unfortunately, he had already moved on from the company before I officially started. Luckily, months later, fate (and a dance floor in the Amsterdam nightlife scene) brought us back together. We tried to stay “just friends,” but the spark never really gave us a chance—and the chemistry was undeniable.
The Proposal
Nearly nine years ago, we took our first family holiday to the Amalfi Coast—a spontaneous switch from our usual trips to Southeast Asia. We instantly fell in love: with the villages, the lemons, the limoncello, and the locals. It became our place as a young family with (at the time) two kids. We’ve returned every summer since.
On our third trip, while sailing around Capri—just us, the kids, and a skipper—Robert asked the skipper to take a family photo. As I posed on the wobbly deck, Rob dropped to one knee. The skipper caught it all on video. It was so intimate and so special, with just us and our children, the Faraglioni as our backdrop. We soaked it all in, stayed in our own little bubble as long as we could, and didn’t share the news with the outside world until late that evening. We dreamed of marrying there in 2020, but the world had other plans. By 2023, we had three beautiful children. That year, in Ravello, we stumbled upon our to-be venue. Gigi, our eight-year-old, said, “Mommy, Daddy—this would be nice for our wedding!” And she was right. It wasn’t just our wedding—it was a celebration of the whole Tuuk family. I was the last one without the name—until now.
The Engagement Ring
For years, he knew my heart belonged to emeralds. Robert found a timeless vintage ring: three emeralds with diamonds from one of my favorite vintage jewelers. It was everything.
Our Wedding
The Vision
Ten years in, and three kids later—this wedding was a celebration of a love already lived. As much as we love (high) fashion and could fully immerse ourselves in creative thinking for our big day, we didn’t follow trends or traditions that didn’t speak to us. Every choice was intentional; every detail, a piece of our story. Even the village, Ravello, held deep meaning. Our children helped pick the handmade paper and co-designed the illustration for the invitations and personalized limoncello bottles. We made it a family affair.
We also felt incredibly lucky to incorporate Asian elements—Robert is half Indonesian and I am Filipina—throughout the week. Early in our relationship, Robert worked next to a tiny flower shop and brought me a single red rose every Wednesday. So when it came to florals, we knew: red roses. Not only because they’re beautiful, but because they’re so us. We paired them with all things classic Amalfi. “Meet me where the wild roses grow.” I knew the altar had to look like wild red roses had always been growing there. Every detail was a personal nod to our love story—as a couple and as a family.
The Location
Ravello is a small mountaintop village where cars aren't allowed—it’s all cobbled paths and charm. A true pedestrian village where everything is within walking distance. It created the perfect opportunity to keep the wedding location a surprise until the welcome party! All the events were close by, which made things simple for everyone. We asked our 65+ guests to stay near the piazza of Ravello, and it felt like we had the village to ourselves. Before and after the big day, everyone gathered in the square, sharing espresso and wine—it became our own magical little village.
The Ceremony
The dress code? Black tie. From 3 p.m., tuxedos and vibrant gowns strolled through the village. My mother-in-law watched from her balcony and said, “It felt like a movie.” Guests arrived accompanied by a live harpist—until Robert walked in with our son, Rafael, to a jazz version of Take My Breath Away. Our daughters, Helena and Giselle, and I followed to I’m Kissing You by Des’ree—a song I’d always dreamed of walking down the aisle to. Of course, Robert cried. Even though he said he wouldn’t.
The Reception
We kicked things off with live music by Amanda Simons (whom we discovered singing in Amsterdam) and a saxophonist, while guests sipped personalized limoncello bottles designed by Ivy Design, featuring our kids’ drawings. For dinner, we had two long tables named after things typical of Amalfi—The Lemon Grove and Land of the Sirens—lined with red roses and black velvet. Hidden under each plate was a personal handwritten note for every guest. And of course, the most beautiful speeches—none of us expected to cry as much as we did.
The Special Touches
Every guest received a handwritten love letter from us. As a thank-you gift, we designed illustrated limoncello bottles. The kids also stole the show with their welcome and closing speeches—and ended the night with a surprise song by our daughter. I had also one surprise left: I performed Can’t Take My Eyes Off You for Robert.
Our Favorite Moment
Our vows—Robert surprised me by speaking in my Filipino dialect. That meant so much, my dad was overcome with emotions. Giselle, our 8-year-old daughter, gave a welcome speech that melted hearts. Rafael, our 2-year-old, was our ring carrier, twinned his outfits with Robert. And then Helena, our 15-year-old, closed the night singing My All by Mariah Carey. There wasn’t a dry eye in the house—even the tough guys teared up.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
For the ceremony, I wore a sheer rose skirt by Halfpenny London. I paired it with a corset by Danielle Frankel. My shoes were by By Far, minimal and elegant. For our first dance, I changed into a full Danielle Frankel look—skirt, sleeve, and corset. For the cake-cutting and party, I wanted something completely different. I wore a lace legging from Calzedonia and layered it with a stunning sheer cape by Tal Kedem. I also wore heart-shaped heels by Yume Yume.
The Groom Looks
Robert wore a Ralph Lauren Purple Label suit. He finished the look with a bow tie and pin from Cinabre Paris and Gucci dress shoes.
Our Bridesmaid’s & Groomsmen's Looks
I personally curated the dresses over the course of a year, tailoring each one to suit my bridesmaids’ individual styles—completed with black gloves and birdcage veils. The groomsmen wore classic black tie, finished with personal batik pocket squares as a nod to heritage.
