From a surprise proposal to a wedding that seamlessly blended style, deconstruction, and timeless elegance, every detail told a story. Frida and Luis’s celebration was a perfect mix of high fashion and heartfelt moments. Think Vera Wang, Maison Margiela, and Dior, paired with a taco truck and modern event design. It was a night of love, laughter, and a few unexpected surprises. Here’s a glimpse into the couple’s thoughtfully curated, deeply personal wedding day, beautifully captured by our talented member Kelly Mour.
Our Love Story
The Proposal
We were on Luis’s birthday trip to New York. Luis had the Ludlow staff in on his Lower East Side proposal! I did not see it coming at all.
The Engagement Ring
It was perfect. Luis walked into Tiffany’s with his best friend.
Our Wedding
The Vision
I love storytelling, and I knew I had to do our story justice—even if only through design. Maison Margiela and those ’90s runways were always an inspiration. I made a compilation of clips and videos of us and our time together. This black-and-white movie played on beautifully draped fabric—deconstructed and imperfect. I combined Margiela’s grunge and deconstruction with the venue’s Ralph Lauren preppy chic.
The Team of Vendors
We first have to rave about Banks and Leaf, our incredible planners who heard our unique vision and worked tirelessly to manifest it. Vendors like House of Wilde production were indispensible given how dramatically we transformed our reception space. Sav & Cam, our videographers, are so talented and we knew they would capture the nostalgic essence of the experience. And, of course, our photographer, Kelly, with whom we have a soul-like connection, captured our day in a way no one else could. She was the very first person we hired for our wedding and you can see why.
The Ceremony
Our ceremony was held in a historic catholic church in the middle of Denver. It was the perfect backdrop for such a sacred part of the day, and it was also uniquely aligned with our overall vision that harkened back to Maison Margiela's runway shows in the 90s. Downtown Denver has a grungy and in certain places gothic feel, and it felt creatively interesting and expansive to hold such a lux event amidst all that history. Rosemary Floral, our incredible florist, created a showstopping arch of lilies at the church's exit, which set the backdrop for our recessional and celebratory moments with friends and family post-ceremony.
The Reception
Our reception space at The University Club of Denver was completely transformed with dramatic draping, otherworldly florals, and religious iconography candles. The centerpiece of the evening's events was a large draped screen where we projected core life memories on film. Our paper goods by the amazing Birdsong Design House were in English and Spanish to reflect our upbringing in Mexico. Mike Yung, my husband’s favorite singer, flew in from New York to perform our first dance song and a private set. Our cake by Intricate Icings was the size of an entire table and was decorated to mimic my custom headpiece. And of course, the overall theme was a reflection of our favorite designer, Maison Margiela.
The Special Touches
Wedding photos of our friends and family were scattered around the cocktail hour sitting area. We had our taco truck pull up for a midnight snack. Luis once told me he would have Mike Yung sing our first dance song at our wedding. I didn’t believe him—yet there he was. It felt surreal. We used to listen to his subway station videos every day.
Our Favorite Moment
Our first dance. We took a couple of lessons because we couldn’t dance together to save our lives. The lessons, the time together, and then finally dancing in front of our loved ones—it was all worth it. Our second favorite moment? When we were supposed to walk down for cocktail hour together. We were announced, but Luis was in the bathroom. I wanted to pull my hair out for a second. Good times.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
I wore a Vera Wang trumpet-style dress with heavy lace appliqués, flower headpieces, white leather gloves (a gift from my mom), and white Dior shoes.
My second dress was a beautiful Maison Margiela gown, which I paired with beige Mary Jane-style Tabis. I wore my grandmother’s ruby earrings.
The Groom Looks
Luis wore a custom beige Tom Ford suit with wine-colored Margiela Tabi loafers.
Our Advice
For The Planning Process
Prioritize what is most important to you both and leave out everything that isn’t. If you don’t want to force your friends into wearing matching dresses or doing traditional wedding party things, then don’t.
For On The Day
Sleep the night before and be present. I didn’t sleep—I ran on adrenaline and champagne—but I was 100 percent there.
