Some love stories unfold like poetry, weaving together art and heartfelt emotion. Carmen and Ignacio's wedding was just that – a celebration rich in meaning, beauty and personal touches. Set against the stunning backdrop of an old palace in Seville, their special day was a seamless blend of minimalism and authenticity. From the moment guests arrived, they were transported into a living art gallery where every detail was carefully curated to enhance the purity of the space. At the reception, a chic bread and olive oil grazing table draped in flowing fabric invited guests to savour the flavours of Spain in the most stylish way. Every element of their wedding was a tribute to their heritage, their love and the art of bringing people together.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
We are each from different parts of Spain—Ignacio is from Seville, and I am from a small town in the Basque Country—so our meeting was purely by chance at a medical congress. After that, we got to know each other from a distance for several years, as we lived in different cities, until we were finally able to reunite in Madrid.
The Proposal
My sister flew to Madrid for the day to help Ignacio choose the perfect ring for me. After an exhaustive search, he found it, and that same night, in the most unexpected and informal way, he surprised me with his proposal.
The Engagement Ring
The engagement ring features an 18k white gold band with an emerald-cut emerald at the center, flanked by a diamond on each side.
Our Wedding
The Vision
The palace—its architecture and grand presence—defined the aesthetics of the wedding. The goal is to enhance the purity of the space with organic and simple décor in light tones, preserving its essence. The creative vision is to transport guests into an art gallery filled with details, surprising them at every moment.
Our Team of Vendors
Our wedding planners, Casamentera's Events, developed the creative concept from start to finish. They were responsible for assembling the perfect team of vendors to bring the vision to life.
The Location
The celebration took place at Palacio 7 Balcones, an old palace in a small town near Seville. The venue boasts multiple rooms, spaces, and unique settings, which we explored throughout the celebration.
The Ceremony
The religious ceremony was held at the Church of Santa Catalina, a charming historic church in the heart of Seville.
The Reception
At the palace entrance, a close friend of mine welcomed us with a traditional Basque dance known as aurresku. This solemn and symbolic dance is performed in public as a tribute.
The Special Touches
Since we come from opposite ends of Spain—North and South—our cultures contrast in many ways.
To honor this, we incorporated northern influences throughout the wedding, including artwork (impressions by renowned Basque sculptor Eduardo Chillida) and culinary elements.
Our Favorite Moment
It is impossible to choose just one moment, as the entire celebration was magical and special from beginning to end.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
I chose a Cortana dress made of three layers of natural silk in an elegant ivory color, with a fine, graceful drape and movement. The dress allowed for multiple styling options, which I adjusted throughout the wedding. For the religious ceremony, I wore the silk cape draped over my shoulders.
During the cocktail and dinner, I styled it over one shoulder, and later, for a final look, I wrapped it around my neck. For the party, I changed into a slip dress from Zara. As my "something borrowed," I wore the shoes my sister got married in—such a special touch!
The Groom Looks
I was unsure about what type of suit to wear, as I didn’t want to go with the traditional morning suit so common in Seville. In the end, I opted for a custom-made double-breasted suit from Lander Urquijo, a renowned Basque tailor with stores in Madrid. I paired it with a tailored white shirt, Hermès cufflinks, and an Italian silk tie in green and blue tones. My shoes were classic black leather lace-ups, handcrafted by a traditional Madrid shoemaker.
