There’s nothing better than having a journey into cinematographic dimensions with your loved ones. But isn’t going out for a movie date getting a little bit boring? Well, our answer is "no". It’s still as entertaining as before, especially when you are enjoying a screening under the stars with a significant other. And not just somewhere else, but in California. For you and your date, we've rounded up some of the best drive-in theaters to experience in this sunny state. Take any vehicle you have, the love of your life, and don’t forget about popcorn!
Paramount Drive-In, Paramount
The theater will meet you with two 75-foot screens, some of the best digital projections, great sound technology, and an expanded food menu — everything in a clean, safe environment. Paramount Drive-In is a local classic, which opened its doors back in 1947. The business had its ups and downs, but now the theater is back and stronger than before. Choose a movie to your taste, bring your food, and drinks (no alcoholic beverages, though!) and enjoy the show. Whether you want to watch a movie from inside of your car, from the bed of the truck, or sitting on a chair, it doesn’t matter. You are here to have a good time!
Electric Dusk Drive-In, Glendale
The longest-running Drive-In and outdoor movie venue is located in LA’s Glendale. Electric Dusks’ movie choices are always a mix: from classics to freshly new releases. Sometimes the selection is based on the season and intended to make a fun atmosphere. Watch your favorite pieces in a nostalgic setting with neon lights and iconic LA skyline as the backdrop. How romantic is that! By the way you can not only ask your date to join you, but take your pets as well, as the venue is pet-friendly. Just in case, private events and screenings are also available, so keep that in mind.
Van Buren Drive-In, Riverside
Riverside’s Van Buren Drive-In takes its name after the boulevard the theater is located on. Though the theater opened in 1964, it underwent a complete renovation in 2006. With a capacity of 1,500 cars, you will find the perfect spot for your vehicle at the venue. In the mood for a chilling horror story or light-hearted comedy? Find the softest blanket and enjoy movie screenings with your partner. You may also visit Van Buren’s swap meet to scout for unique items.
Santee Drive-In Theater, San Diego
You're here for a long ride! Watch two movies for the price of one under the stars, while having your best time in this classic drive-in theater. Pick your favorite film from their website and sprint for tickets. While watching, don’t forget to check out the theater's fully loaded snack bar. Hamburgers, pizzas, nachos and ice creams — everything you need for a quality stay! Sunny or rainy, Santee Drive-In welcomes you 7 days a week.
Vineland Drive-In, City of Industry
Multi-screen theater Vineland Drive-In in the San Gabriel Valley offers a wide selection of new releases each week and classics too. The theater broadcasts on FM Dolby Stereo sound, so the radio is required! Don’t give up if you are lacking one, as you can rent it right from the snack bar. Check out their website for upcoming screenings and get ready to have fun. Watching a good movie together is a great way to become closer with your loved ones.

The Roadium, Torrance
By day, The Roadium hosts over 450 vendors, and by night they make movie screenings for cinephiles from all over the state. It’s not your typical 365-day-a-year kind of drive-in theater, though. The screening experience comes alive most Friday nights, and guests can enjoy classic movies from the comfort of their car. Movie screenings usually start after sunset, so you can imagine how atmospheric it will be! The Roadium also works as a private event site. If you want to surprise your significant other or a group of friends, you can rent out the whole park for the night to host your event.
