A Cinematic & Artistic Color-Washed Wedding Weekend at Amanzoe in Greece

| By Xenia Lar
A multi-day celebration blending hospitality, fashion, and an experiential design

High above the Peloponnese coastline, where clean architectural lines meet wild, sun-washed landscapes, Sabrina and Magnus brought a distinctly personal vision to life at Amanzoe — one rooted in restraint, texture, and quiet impact. Their celebration felt intentional at every turn: sculptural florals in soft, natural pinks echoed the tones of the surrounding hills, while long, candlelit tables by the water created an atmosphere that was both intimate and expansive. The ceremony unfolded along a striking custom-built aisle stretching over the pool, drawing every eye toward the horizon — and toward Sabrina, who moved through the space in a custom Kim Kassas gown with a dramatic corset and sweeping tulle train, equal parts modern romance and statement design. As day slipped into evening, guests wandered through lavender-scented gardens, gathered over caviar and champagne, and descended to the beach club where flickering light, layered textures, and a sense of ease defined the night. It was less about spectacle, more about feeling — an experience designed to be lived in fully, from the first step down the aisle to the final plunge into the sea.

Our Welcome Party

The Location

We chose Amanzoe in Greece. Magnus grew up in London, so most of his friends and family are in Europe, and I had always wanted a destination wedding. We chose Greece because we wanted a location that would be new to both of us and exciting for many of our guests. The Aman hotel brand fit perfectly with their level of hospitality and design.

Our Team of Vendors

We had the most incredible team of vendors, and I actually chose our wedding planner, Candice Edinger, based off a single photo of a wedding ceremony I saw on Pinterest! After looking into more of her work, I knew she was the only planner for us. I also knew I wanted the florist she usually worked with, Studio Mondine. The only other vendor I knew I needed before starting wedding planning was Norman & Blake for photography. After seeing Sofia Richie’s wedding, I have been obsessed with their work ever since!

Our Style

For the welcome party, I wanted my look to feel really in line with the atmosphere of the evening—beautiful, elegant, and fun, but still understated and restrained. My dress was very loose and flowy with an open back that moved so beautifully throughout the night and felt effortless in the setting. I paired it with more playful accessories, like my octopus necklace from Elle Periah, which added a fun coastal touch. My red Olympia Le-Tan Negroni book bag ended up being the perfect accessory for the night. It was playful and unexpected, but also a little hint to guests of the moodier afterparty that was still to come later in the evening. Magnus wore a beautiful beige linen suit that felt incredibly effortless and tied in perfectly with all of the linens and natural textures we chose for the dinner. Together, everything felt very cohesive with the overall aesthetic of the night.

Décor & Ambience

The welcome party was designed to feel like the dreamiest version of a chic Greek summer dinner party. There was lots of candlelight, overflowing food, and that warm golden-hour energy. The design was meant to be very minimal and to just accentuate the beauty of the hotel. It felt elegant but relaxed—very Mediterranean, very alive, and intentionally not overly formal.

The amphitheater afterparty of our welcome party was the complete opposite energy in the best way possible. We transformed the space into a moody, red lounge-inspired party with low lighting, rich tones, and a more sensual, late-night feel. It was vibey, immersive, and almost felt like guests had stepped into another world after the welcome dinner ended. The contrast between the soft romanticism of the welcome party and the darker, more playful energy of the afters made the transition feel really special.

Our Rehearsal Dinner

Our Style

I really wanted us to feel like we matched the atmosphere of the night—romantic, coastal, and very Greek, without feeling costumey. My inspiration was a modern Grecian goddess. The structured corset with the flowy skirt and scarf from SEPT felt like the perfect balance of sculpted and effortless, and it fit the whimsy and movement of the night so well. Magnus wore a beautiful blue-turquoise linen suit that reminded me of the water you see at seaside Greek tavernas, so our looks ended up feeling really cohesive with the setting and overall vibe of the evening.

Décor & Ambience

The goal of this event was to be a Grecian barbecue, in the style of a Grecian taverna. We had so much fun with the styling of this event. The colors were the deep blues you typically see at Greek restaurants. We also had tons of Grecian motifs like the sun, fish, spirals, and Grecian sculptures and busts. The food was a family-style Greek feast with classic dishes. The butters were in the shapes of Greek sculptures. We also had Greek wedding bread all throughout the tables. The evening, of course, had to end in a traditional Greek dance/show with plate throwing!

Our Wedding Day

The Day We Met

We actually met on the first day of college at the University of Pennsylvania. My roommate was friends with someone who lived across the hall from someone who was friends with Magnus, and we all ended up at a dinner together on the first night. Magnus remembers seeing me and instantly wanting to get to know me more. We ended up being best friends for the first semester and then started dating in the second semester of college.

The Proposal

Magnus proposed on the beach in the Hamptons near my family’s Sagaponack house. It was just the two of us on the beach, and when we got back to the house, both of our families were there. We had a surprise lobster bake dinner in the garden, and then we went back to the beach for a fire and s’mores after dinner.

The Engagement Ring

I always knew I wanted a pear engagement ring. We actually designed the ring together. It is an elongated pear natural diamond on a pavé hidden halo, with a pavé band, all in platinum.

The Vision

I come from a hospitality background since I used to be a pastry chef, and Magnus is very design-forward. He is also Swedish, and his mom was raised in Japan, so we love the Japandi style of design. The vision for the wedding was for it to feel organic, sculptural, restrained yet impactful, and to have a timeless beauty and elegance while still leaning very natural. One of the most important aspects to us was the guest experience—making sure everyone had the best time and felt like they were not just at a wedding, but almost on a luxury branded trip.

The Ceremony

The ceremony was at the main hotel landing, on a platform overlooking the mountains and the water. We had to build a platform over the entrance pool, as well as a 64-meter-long walkway for the aisle! I wanted the florals to be light, natural pinks and to look very organic and wildflower-like. We actually chose some florals that already grew naturally around the property.

Cocktail Hour

Cocktail hour was in the lavender garden overlooking the sunset. We had a live bossa nova band and served some of our favorite luxurious foods, like a caviar station and a pata negra station.

The Reception

For the reception, we brought everyone down to the beach club right after sunset. There were two long tables on either side of the pool and a gorgeous sculptural area for the band. There were hundreds of candles on the beach and beautiful mood lighting. We wanted the florals to be shades of pink to match the sunsets there. We kept the table settings and flatware very minimal, but still incorporated a mix of sculptural and organic elements. There were speeches, a three-course plated dinner, lots of dancing, and to end the night, we all jumped into the ocean!

The Special Touches

I used to work as a pastry sous chef at a two-Michelin-star restaurant (Atera) in NYC before moving to Boston. My head pastry chef from there—who is also my mentor and good friend—came to the wedding and made a special dessert. Pearls are my favorite, and he created custom pearl mousse entremets served in cleaned oyster shells. I also designed a custom bracelet made with pearls that were given to me by Magnus’ mother. They originally belonged to his grandmother, who passed away before I had the chance to meet her. All of my bridal looks also included pearls in some way.

Our Favorite Moment

This is almost impossible to choose! One moment was walking down the aisle—I immediately started crying when I saw Magnus. It was surreal because the rest of the world just faded away, and I only saw him for the entirety of the ceremony. It felt like it was just the two of us, especially while reading our vows. The vows were so similar, even though we wrote them completely separately—we always say we share a brain. Another moment was our first dance. We were both so nervous! We used the same song my mom and stepdad had for their first dance and surprised them. They were completely blown away and crying afterward—it was so special. Lastly, jumping into the ocean with all of our best friends at the end of the night. I changed out of my sparkly after-party dress and stole my brother’s tuxedo shirt to wear in the water! Most of our friends jumped in fully dressed in gowns and tuxedos.

Our Style

The Bridal Looks

I wore six looks throughout the weekend, all by different designers. I wanted each look to be distinct, but to become progressively more elaborate and special. I also had so much fun with the accessories! For the welcome party, I had a Negroni book clutch (Negroni was our signature wedding drink, and we even sent a custom version to guests as part of the invitation!). For the ceremony, I wore a custom Kim Kassas dress with an elaborate corset and a giant tulle skirt with about an 18-foot train. For the reception, I had a custom semi-sheer tulle skirt made that matched the ceremony skirt but was lightweight and easier to move in for dancing. My final look was a fully beaded mini dress by Netta BenShabu.

The Groom Looks

All of Magnus’ looks were completely custom-made by a small bespoke company in NYC called Charles Paige. We wanted his looks to complement mine. Each jacket had custom embroidery in the collar with our wedding date and fun sayings. He wore a white tuxedo jacket for the ceremony and dinner, then changed into a black tuxedo jacket with subtle shimmer threads for his second look of the night.

Our Bridesmaids’ & Groomsmen’s Looks

I let all of my bridesmaids choose dresses that fit their personal style (with my approval, of course). I wanted different shades of pastel pink and purple to match the florals. I loved how the variety still felt cohesive. For groomsmen we kept it simple with tailored black tuxedos. They all wore white calla lily boutonnieres to match the bridesmaids’ bouquets.

Our Advice

For the Planning Process

Have fun with it! Also, include the groom in the decision-making process. Magnus actually did more work than I did, and it was really special to see both of our visions come to life. Take your time reviewing vendor contracts and go through as many iterations as needed to ensure everything is exactly how you want it. Don’t settle for something you’re not happy with just because you feel bad asking for changes.

For On The Day

Be present. Take a few moments alone together to soak everything in and appreciate all the effort you put into creating something meaningful. And most importantly—have fun! Don’t stress if things aren’t perfect. You’ll be the only ones who notice.

For Post-Wedding

If possible, stay at your venue for a couple of nights after the wedding. We left for our honeymoon the next day, and it felt like too much—we were exhausted and would have loved more time there. Also, make sure to send thank-you notes to your vendors. They put in so much work and deserve to be appreciated. Lastly, keep mementos from your wedding events—we saved menus and décor pieces for a memory box.
