A Modern Coastal Wedding with a Mocha Altar in Altea, Spain

Today | By Ksenia Larina
A refined celebration of light, texture, and movement overlooking the Altea coastline

Golden light, sea air, and a celebration that felt deeply personal from start to finish – Millie and Conor’s wedding in Altea was a masterclass in modern destination design. Perched above the Mediterranean, the day moved effortlessly from an intimate, emotion-filled ceremony to a vibrant, immersive evening where every detail felt considered yet entirely natural. Clean lines, sculptural lilies, and a monochrome palette softened by candlelight defined the aesthetic, with La Federica, our members, bringing a refined, contemporary vision to life. Overhead lighting installations mirrored the curved reception tables, creating a glowing, cocoon-like atmosphere as the celebration shifted into night. Millie’s bridal look captured the same balance of intention and ease: a modern two-piece, styled with a dramatic veil and later transformed for the dance floor, reflecting a wardrobe designed for movement and longevity. Behind the lens, THE WED member Marcos Sánchez documented every moment with depth and sensitivity, while Tipos translated the day into nostalgic Super 8 frames. The result was a wedding that felt immersive, stylish, and unmistakably their own.

Our Love Story

The Day We Met

Conor and I met just over five years ago at a party neither of us were planning to attend, and funny enough, we barely spoke. Afterwards, he followed me on Instagram, and six months of messaging later, I finally agreed to a date. From the moment we met (again), everything felt easy. We had the best first date—one of those nights that flies by—and the rest is history.

The Proposal

The proposal couldn’t have been more perfect. We had just spent a week in Ibiza with some of my closest friends celebrating my 30th birthday, and afterwards, Conor and I decided to stay on the island a little longer to slow things down and enjoy Ibiza at a more relaxed pace. One afternoon, we went to a restaurant, Hostal La Torre. When we arrived, the restaurant was empty, and we were given the best seat in the house, overlooking the rocks and the sea. During the meal, a butterfly landed on my shoulder and stayed there for quite some time before landing on Conor’s finger. We’re both quite superstitious, and it symbolised new beginnings, so Conor knew this was the time to pop the question. We like to believe the butterfly was my dad giving his blessing. After lunch, we took a walk down onto the rocks below the restaurant, and that’s where Conor got down on one knee and proposed.

The Engagement Ring

Choosing the ring was easy—I had sent Conor plenty of inspiration. He chose an oval diamond on a yellow gold band, which felt very “me.” The stressful part was timing, as apparently the ring had to be remade and almost didn’t make it before our Ibiza trip. Luckily, Conor picked it up the day before we flew out. Before the wedding, I updated the setting to an east-west half bezel design with a slightly thicker gold band to sit better with my wedding ring that I was designing. It still felt timeless—just more modern and more “me.”

Our Wedding

The Vision

Our vision was to bring everyone we love together in one place for the first time. With Conor from Sydney and me from England, it felt like a huge moment. We wanted the day to feel fun, immersive, and intentional, with each part of the celebration unfolding like an experience. Styling was incredibly important to us. We wanted the overall look to feel cool, modern, sleek, and minimal, and every decision reflected who we are. When it came to the party, Conor had one non-negotiable: lasers. Aside from that, he let me take the lead creatively with our stylists, La Federica. As long as the dance floor was fun, he was happy.

Our Team of Vendors

Every vendor we worked with genuinely cared about our wedding and made the experience so enjoyable. Their passion and dedication brought everything together, and we couldn’t have done it without them. Every single person involved is someone we would recommend again and again. Our photographer, Marcos Sanchez, was absolutely incredible. He not only captured our wedding day so beautifully but also joined us for our pre-party and documented that too. Our videographer, Guilherme, was equally amazing and even managed to send us little snippets of the wedding the very next day, which was so exciting. Being able to relive those moments straight away was such a gift, and his talent and creativity truly shone through in everything he captured. Tipos created our Super 8 film, giving us the most beautiful vintage-style video that feels so nostalgic and timeless. La Federica brought our entire styling vision to life through their incredible design, production, and floristry.

The Location

The location was truly one of the most special parts of our wedding. Finca Marqués de Montemolar was absolutely incredible and felt completely unique from the moment we arrived. Each setting throughout the day felt like a brand-new experience, and no two areas were the same, which made the day feel constantly exciting and immersive for our guests. Being able to move through the entire celebration without ever leaving the venue meant everyone could truly relax and enjoy themselves.

The Ceremony

Set overlooking the Altea sea, the ceremony was intimate, emotional, and exactly what we hoped for. This is where the styling vision by La Federica began—clean, cool, and timeless. I walked down the aisle to one of Conor’s and my favourite songs, Midas by Maribou State—a song that will forever feel special to us. My beautiful flower girl and my very serious “ring security” page boy walked down with my bridesmaids before my mum and brother walked me down the aisle. I was initially quite nervous about that moment, as my dad had passed away and couldn’t be there with us. Having my mum and brother walk beside me instead was incredibly emotional and meant more to me than I can put into words.

Our celebrant, Laura, was absolutely wonderful—kind, calm, and so warm. The ceremony was short and sweet, just as we wanted it, and Conor and I were able to share our own vows. We later realised how similar our vows were, which felt funny and very “us.” During the ceremony, our “ring security” carefully passed our wedding rings around to all of our guests so each person could hold them for a moment and make a wish for us. It was such a special and meaningful touch, knowing that every single guest had quite literally held our future in their hands and sent us their love and hopes. There were plenty of happy tears and lots of laughter, especially when Conor jumped the gun and kissed me before Laura had officially said, “You may kiss the bride.” She’d said something in Spanish, and he thought that was his cue—a moment that perfectly summed him up. From start to finish, the ceremony was emotional, joyful, and full of love.

The Cocktail Hour

The cocktail hour was such a fun and relaxed part of the day, and really where everyone had the chance to properly mingle and meet for the first time. We had an incredible Spanish band playing live, which instantly set the tone and brought the space to life. The food was unbelievable, with canapés served throughout by El Poblet, alongside a live paella station that our guests absolutely loved. We chose to weave some of the speeches into the cocktail hour rather than having them all at once later on. My mum spoke, Conor’s dad gave a speech, and one of my bridesmaids, Bec, also spoke. Spacing them out meant everyone could enjoy the moment without feeling like they were sitting through speeches all night.

The Reception

The reception was where we really leaned into the details and brought the styling vision fully to life. We had two C-shaped tables, with Conor and me seated within them rather than at a separate table. It meant we were right in the middle of everything and able to share the experience with all of our guests, which was exactly what we wanted. Above the tables, fairy lights were suspended low in the same shape as the seating, casting the most beautiful glow over the space. The tables were styled with glowing candles wrapped with ribbon, pebble lights, and a flowing arrangement of wine-coloured calla lilies running throughout. Every element felt layered, intimate, and thoughtfully considered. The speeches were one of the most emotional parts of the evening. Conor’s groomsmen gave a joint speech, which was both heartfelt and funny. Conor’s speech followed, and it was the perfect mix of laughter and tears. The tables and furniture were provided by Mafesa Integral, and the lighting was by LediLux, who created the most beautiful ambience throughout the space. The entire design, production, and floral styling was brought together by La Federica. The two sisters behind La Federica were an absolute dream to work with—they truly understood my vision, paid attention to every detail, and brought everything to life in a way that exceeded anything I could have imagined.

The Special Touches

We handwrote a poem for every guest, which doubled as their place card. Our stationer, _ellastrations, created beautiful love letter envelopes with pearl stamps. Watching guests read and share them at the table was one of the most meaningful moments of the day.

Our Favorite Moment

One of our favorite moments was walking down the aisle. We had both been imagining that moment for so long. It’s a memory we’ll carry with us forever.

Our Style

The Bridal Looks

When I found a corset and skirt from SAINT Bridal Couture, it just clicked. Their designs feel modern yet romantic, and the two-piece look meant I could change into a matching short skirt in the evening, made perfectly by a seamstress in London. I wanted something timeless that I would still love years from now and could wear again, paired with classic Prada heels I knew I would continue to wear beyond the wedding day. From the beginning, I knew I wanted a big, long veil, which is where the incredibly talented Harriett Falvey came in. After many Zoom calls, she created the most beautiful veil, along with a delicate neck scarf and lace gloves for the evening.

The Groom Looks

Conor chose a classic double-breasted black tuxedo that was handmade in a small boutique in London. One of my favourite details was hidden on the inside of his jacket—it was stitched with “Mr. and Mrs. Goodtimes,” a nod to Conor’s nickname and something he loved having as a private, personal touch on the day. He also chose to wear a waistcoat, which gave him the option to change things up later in the evening. As the night went on, he swapped his bow tie for a longer, undone style, which gave the look a more relaxed feel for the party. And in true practical fashion, he came prepared with two shirts—one for the ceremony and another to change into later after a full day in the Spanish sun.

Our Bridesmaids’ & Groomsmen’s Looks

For my bridesmaids and flower girl, I wanted a look that felt cohesive yet completely true to each person. I chose a black silk satin palette, but I also wanted everyone to feel comfortable and confident in what they were wearing. Rather than putting them all in the same dress, I let my bridesmaids choose their own styles—my only request was that the dresses were long, black, and satin. The groomsmen wore classic single-breasted black suits, keeping their look timeless and sharp.

Our Advice

For the Planning Process

Plan well ahead and stay as organised as you can. Once you have your date locked in, secure your key vendors early and then work through everything bit by bit. It makes the process feel far more manageable and helps avoid feeling overwhelmed. We also made a real effort to celebrate the small wins along the way and keep the planning fun and meaningful. For us, planning the wedding never felt stressful—it was something we genuinely enjoyed doing together. At the end of the day, you’re creating a celebration that reflects what you both want, and that mindset made the entire experience so much more enjoyable.

For On The Day

Enjoy every moment and go with the flow.

For Post-Wedding

Keep the celebrations going. We went straight to Ibiza for a week with our entire wedding party, and it was the best way to unwind, laugh, and properly soak it all in together. We also chose to plan our honeymoon for a few months later, which meant the excitement didn’t end once the wedding was over. It gave us something else to look forward to and really helped stretch out the celebrations in the best possible way.
