With nearly a decade in wedding photography, Franco Gribodo has built a name for capturing the kind of raw, unscripted emotion that can’t be staged. His work takes him to some of the world’s most romantic corners, from the sun-drenched streets of Barcelona to the dreamy shores of Lake Como. Yet for Franco, it’s never only about the backdrop. What matters most is the feeling — the in-between moments and the quiet kind of intimacy that speaks louder than posed perfection. Exclusively for THE WED, Franco is sharing the secrets behind his signature approach to authentic destination wedding photography.

The Magic of
Spontaneous Moments
I believe the best photographs happen when couples forget the camera is even there. My greatest advice is to simply enjoy the day without worrying about the photos. The laughter, the glances, the tears — all those fleeting moments can’t be staged or repeated. To achieve this, I spend time getting to know each couple beforehand, whether in person or over a video call. That connection makes everything flow naturally on the wedding day itself.

Trust from the
Very First Conversation
For me, every wedding is unique. That’s why I accompany couples through the entire journey, from the first planning steps to the final toast, listening closely to their ideas and adapting to the essence of their celebration. Be that an intimate ceremony in Mallorca, a castle in Tuscany, a villa in Barcelona, or an elegant setting in Rome, my approach is always to keep things simple and ensure the photographs reflect the true personality of those who choose me.

Europe as a Stage for Love Stories
Italy, France, Spain, Greece. Europe is full of romantic settings, but photographing a destination wedding is about so much more than pressing the shutter. My experiences in remarkable places, such as the stunning Villa Aurelia in Rome, have taught me to anticipate the light, adapt to the rhythm of each country, and notice the small details that make every story authentic and timeless.

Balancing Light and Atmosphere
Light is everything. Whenever possible, I suggest planning key moments such as the ceremony or couple portraits around the best natural light of the day, often just before sunset. That soft golden glow creates a timeless atmosphere that’s nearly impossible to replicate. At the same time, I love experimenting with creative options, such as subtle flash or carefully crafted lighting for couples who envision a more editorial or “old money” aesthetic. Whether soft and romantic or bold and stylish, the lighting should always mirror the mood of the celebration.

Capturing the Essence
Beyond the Day
Destination weddings are more than a single event — they’re an experience shared with loved ones, often unfolding over several days. I strive to capture not only the wedding itself, but also the atmosphere that surrounds it: a quiet morning with family, a welcome dinner under the stars, or a late-night dance by the sea. These in-between moments complete the story and become memories couples treasure just as much as the ceremony itself.

A Memory That Lasts
The photographs of a destination wedding preserve the heart of both a journey and a love story. My aim is that years from now, couples will look at their images and feel every emotion, every scent, and every sound of those unforgettable moments.
