Inside the Met Gala 2026: “Fashion Is Art” Turns the Red Carpet Into a Living Gallery

Fashion’s hottest night just wrapped, and we are obsessed

The Met Gala returns each year first Monday of May as one of fashion's most anticipated nights, a headline-making charity event in support of the Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. With every edition comes a new theme and dress code, a fresh question posed to fashion's most imaginative minds. This year’s theme, “Costume Art,” explores the ever-evolving relationship between fashion, art, and the human body. For the dress code, “Fashion Is Art,” guests were invited to treat themselves as the canvas — and the red carpet did not disappoint, delivering a series of bold, imaginative reinterpretations.

Kylie Jenner channelled Aphrodite in custom Schiaparelli, while sister Kendall Jenner referenced the Winged Victory of Samothrace in a custom GapStudio dress by Zac Posen. Hunter Schafer paid homage to Klimt's “Mäda Primavesi” in Prada — rosebuds, periwinkle florals, the oversized bow faithfully intact, and Troye Sivan took inspiration from the wardrobe of legendary photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. Madonna added a surrealist note, her sheer cape carried by seven helpers, evoking the world of painter Leonora Carrington. Co-chair Beyoncé, returning after a decade-long absence, wore a gown by Olivier Rousteing, its silhouette traced in a skeletal framework of crystals. To close the evening, Rihanna arrived in Maison Margiela — gold, silk, and metal wiring shaped by references to Flemish architecture.

The 2026 Met Gala didn’t just blur the line between art and dress, but it erased it entirely, turning the red carpet into a true gallery in motion.
