Sarah and Gus’s unforgettable celebration – a wedding that was joyful, fun and impossibly classy. Held on the groom’s family property in the rolling hills of Western Australia, the day felt like something plucked from a dream: a perfect fusion of earthy and romantic tones, natural textures and deep, intentional beauty. The ceremony took place on the front lawn, offering sweeping ocean views and featuring a floral-framed altar that was both organic and ethereal. The reception featured long banquet tables stretched beneath a softly lit marquee, draped in luxurious linens and adorned with fruit, flowers, and flickering candles. Every detail felt 'beautiful, natural, elegant and considered' – just as Sarah and Gus had envisioned.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
Like all good love stories, ours began in a dingy nightclub in March 2017—on a sticky dance floor, no less. We locked eyes, kissed almost instantly, and then parted ways, each pretending to play it cool… but secretly thinking about the other. We spent some time apart, but something sparked that night, and it didn’t take long for that spark to become something more.
The Proposal
It was Christmas Eve 2023, and the day was postcard-perfect in Perth. Sarah had been rostered on to nurse at the hospital, but Gus had other plans. Weeks earlier, he’d secretly called her manager and arranged for her to have the day off. That morning began like many of our summer days—with two coffees and an early walk along North Cottesloe Beach, our two dogs in tow. Halfway along the sand, Gus stopped, dropped to one knee, and asked Sarah to marry him. Waiting back at our towels (courtesy of a covertly coordinated friend) was a bottle of vintage Roederer Rosé and a bouquet of flowers. We polished off the Champagne sitting on the beach, toes in the sand, hearts full—an utterly perfect summer’s day.
The Engagement Ring
Gus had reached out to our incredibly talented friend, Siobhan Way, the year prior with a quiet mission to design the ring. The original idea centred around garnet—Sarah’s birthstone—however, Gus and Siobhan experimented with different stones until the perfect combination revealed itself: a regal-cut Australian parti sapphire and a cushion-cut Argyle champagne diamond, set in warm, handcrafted yellow gold. It felt like us. A coming together of two very different but perfectly matched souls. Naturally, Siobhan also created our wedding bands, which we adore.
Our Wedding
The Vision
Our vision came together slowly and joyfully. Em from OMG Events asked us a question early in the planning process: “What three words do you want to describe your wedding?” Our answer: joyful, fun, and classy. From there, the rest unfolded with ease. We were drawn to earthy, romantic tones—stone, burgundy, blush—and natural textures. Em described the final result as “beautiful, natural, elegant, and considered,” which felt exactly right.
The Location
Our wedding was held at Gus’ grandma’s property in the South West of WA—a place that has been in the family for over 50 years. Gus spent so many childhood holidays there, so choosing this spot felt deeply sentimental and meaningful. The view across the native bushland, out toward Smiths Beach and the Indian Ocean, was spectacular—and the emotional connection made it all the more special.
The Ceremony
The ceremony was held on the front lawn with an ocean view, framed by a natural floral arrangement by Rebecca Grace. Guests gathered around as we stood together on a small platform. The setting felt intimate, personal, and powerful. Each of our mothers, along with Sarah’s brother-in-law, delivered a reading they had selected individually. This was the first time Sarah and I heard their speeches, adding a sense of authenticity and surprise, which we loved. Our niece and nephew presented us with our wedding rings and were the cutest little flower girl and page boy.
The Cocktail Hour
As the sun set, Little Belle played acoustic tunes from the altar-turned-stage while canapés and drinks flowed freely. It was golden-hour magic. Sarah’s dad kicked off the speeches as the sky turned pink, and from there, the band led everyone—fairy lights guiding the way—on a short pilgrimage to the reception space out the back. Of course, the journey included a very important pit stop: a shot of Gus’ homemade limoncello for every guest. For better or worse, that limoncello made several encores later that night…
The Reception
The marquee was set near the property’s old shed—long banquet tables for 150 guests, draped in soft linen and topped with flowers, fruits, and candles. Overhead, paper lanterns swayed gently under the ceiling of the tent. We had a raised stage for speeches and another floral installation behind us. The food was shared, feast-style, served by the incredible Supper Road team. After dinner and speeches, the curtain dropped—literally—and the band appeared. The dance floor erupted. It’s hard to describe the energy of that room… it was electric, full of love, laughter, and unfiltered joy. After nearly eight years together, being surrounded by our favorite people—our chosen family—was overwhelming in the best way.
The Special Touches
There were so many beautiful, intentional details. Sarah’s aunty created lockets with photos of loved ones who had passed, which were fastened to her bouquet so they could still be part of the day. Gus had prepped a ‘game-day’ gift pack for Sarah via the bridesmaids—complete with white Crocs, a bottle of Billecart-Salmon Rosé, poetry, lavender spray, and more. We each wrote letters to one another, which we read on the morning of the wedding.
We also wrote individual letters to each member of the opposite bridal party—a surprise that left more than a few tears in its wake. When Sarah arrived, she made sure to see the groomsmen before walking down the aisle—leaving Gus waiting nervously, which made the moment even more special. For our final speech, we stood together and, at its end, pulled a cord to drop the curtains behind us—revealing Sarah’s sister, Hannah, playing piano. She began singing Alicia Keys’ If I Ain’t Got You for our first dance. There wasn’t a dry eye in the marquee, and it was so special having everyone sing along.
Our Favorite Moment
Seeing each other at the end of the aisle. Sarah walked through the garden with both her mum and dad before continuing the final stretch on her own. The music swelled—Van Morrison’s Into the Mystic—and as the song reached its crescendo, we locked eyes. Gus couldn’t help but mouth the lyrics with gusto, and Sarah did a little dance before making her way to him. It was magic. The photos captured that moment perfectly—Sarah beaming with the biggest grin you’ve ever seen.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
Sarah worked with the incredible Katie from Loui Col Designs to create a custom gown—long sleeves, layers of silk tulle, a blush silk underlay, and the star of the show: a flowing tulle cape that danced in the wind. For shoes, she wore classic Georgie’s Bridal heels and Elphin Lane’s champagne Astrid earrings. For the reception, she changed into a flared blazer and pants set from Shona Joy’s La Lune collection—a nod to her true self (a pants girl at heart). Elegant, groovy, and ideal for tearing up the dance floor.
The Groom Looks
Gus went classic black tie—a Canali dinner suit from Parker & Co, paired with a Zegna bow tie and cummerbund, and Italian patent leather shoes. Timeless and elegant. The groomsmen wore coordinating boutonnieres featuring grapes and soft florals, adding a romantic, rustic touch.
Our Bridesmaids’ Looks
The bridesmaids chose their own silhouettes from Shona Joy’s La Lune collection in cream. Each look was completed with Elphin Lane’s Astrid mini champagne earrings. The girls looked effortlessly elegant—and, most importantly, comfortable and confident.
Our Advice
For the Planning Process
We made it fun. Anytime we had wedding planning to do, we turned it into a date night—good food, good wine, and a spreadsheet. Decisions are much easier over a glass of red.
For On the Day
Take moments, just the two of you. Step back, breathe, and soak it all in. After the ceremony, we found a quiet corner and debriefed. We did it again during the reception. Those short moments helped us lock in memories from what can otherwise feel like a beautiful blur.
For Post-Wedding
Drink the leftovers (Kidding… kind of). We hosted a recovery party the next day, which was the best decision. Being able to swap stories, laugh, and relive the previous night’s chaos with everyone was such a gift. Over the next few weeks, we kept the magic going—sharing wine and memories with the people we love most.
