Tell us about yourself. What got you into wedding photography?
I naturally see life in frames. What made me fall in love with photography was the art of portraying people, emotions and relationships. That’s why wedding photography is the perfect fit for me – because it’s about capturing human connection, love and joy.
How would you describe your photography style and aesthetic? How did you develop it over time?
I use a documentary style of photography with an editorial approach and true-to-tone film-style editing. I’m inspired by light, colour and the natural world around us. I focus on catching the in-between moments – a sneaky kiss, a sideways glance or an excited reaction. I hone in on the small details in creative ways, while also stepping back to incorporate the stunning landscapes and architecture that set the scene.
What is the most important thing that you try to convey through your photographs, and how do you achieve it?
Connection is the defining element of my images. It’s an honour to witness and capture intimate, cherished moments. I want to document the significance of the wedding and what it represents for the couple, their families and friends. That’s why it’s important for me to understand who the people I have in front of me are. I want the couple to feel like they can truly be themselves so I can document the connection between the couple and their loved ones in a way that will allow my photos to forever transport them back to that moment in time.
How do you approach new wedding projects? Can you walk us through your process?
My work is rooted in vulnerability, trust and connection. It’s really important for me to work with couples that value this approach. I speak to each of my couples in detail prior to booking to ensure that our personalities and vision align. This is a crucial step because making sure the couple connects and feels comfortable with me is key to getting the best images. I believe that the couple’s day should be documented as it unfolds naturally and my goal is to create a relaxed environment for people to be themselves and enjoy their celebration.
Many couples may feel nervous or camera-shy during their photoshoots. How do you help them feel comfortable and relaxed in front of the camera?
I work closely with my couples to help them be in the moment and guide them through the process with confidence. It’s always my goal to create a relaxed environment for people to be themselves, which helps me capture them together in an authentic way. I’m a people person and can sense what a couple needs and what will help them feel comfortable in front of the camera. I have an easygoing personality that helps them feel relaxed and in their element. If I can help the couple get that part right, the rest comes naturally.
What is the most memorable wedding you have ever photographed?
I take away something from every wedding I photograph that will stay with me forever. So I wouldn’t say I have a most memorable wedding, but I can say my favourite weddings are those where couples are intentional about how they create their day. I love it when couples find a way to express their true style, personalities and quirks. I think It’s magical when a couple lets their love for each other radiate through the moments of the day.
Finally, what motivates you to do what you do, and what keeps you passionate about wedding photography?
Ever since discovering photography at a young age, I’ve loved using my camera to capture anything that’s brought me joy. I take inspiration from art and popular culture — whether from black and white film photos, movies or music— and mix that with my constant curiosity for capturing love through images. My obsession with the craft, combined with a deep passion for creating images that will be cherished by future generations, is what keeps me passionate about what I do.
