A Dreamlike Siren-Inspired Wedding With Oceanic Details in California

At the Tuscan-inspired retreat in Carmel Valley, Memorie and Rich’s wedding was an immersive world of texture, movement, and unexpected beauty. Planned and styled by THE WED members at Earth & Events, the weekend embraced a deeply personal interpretation of coastal-inspired design — one shaped by organic forms, sculptural details, and a sense of quiet wonder. From the custom spiral dining table inspired by the geometry of a nautilus shell to silk installations, chrome accents, and ocean-inspired textures, every element felt intentional and artfully considered. The celebration moved beyond traditional seaside aesthetics, exploring pearlescent finishes, icy tones, surreal touches, and natural forms that reflected the couple’s love of the ocean, travel, and meaningful experiences. From the glow of the candlelit dinner to the transformation of the evening’s final moments, the celebration balanced romance and artistry at every turn — creating a world that felt cinematic, deeply personal, and impossible to forget.

 

Our Love Story

The Day We Met

Rich and Memorie both work in the medical field. Rich is an orthopedic spine surgeon in Orange County, and Memorie works in business development in the post-acute care space. What began as a business introduction quickly and unexpectedly turned into something far more meaningful. After their first dinner together, they were inseparable.Their relationship has always been rooted in a shared love of nature, travel, the coastline, and exceptional dining experiences. As they begin married life, their greatest hopes are to continue laughing together, grow as a couple, uplift one another, and start a family.

The Proposal

Rich proposed in Laguna at one of their favorite beaches—a place they returned to often during the early days of their relationship. The proposal felt deeply personal and full circle, especially because the ocean had remained a recurring thread throughout their relationship and ultimately became the emotional and visual foundation of their wedding design.

Our Wedding

The Vision

We wanted our guests to feel as though they were stepping into an entirely new world—not simply attending a wedding. From the beginning, our vision was to create an immersive, sensory experience centered on connection, care, thoughtful design, and atmosphere—a celebration that gave back to the people who had given so much to us. The design needed to feel personal and deeply connected to the ocean, a constant thread throughout our story. We live along the coast, spend our days near the water with our puppy Onyx, collect nautilus shells, got engaged by the ocean, honeymooned in Greece, and even carried the seashell theme into my bachelorette celebration. The ocean naturally became the foundation for our wedding’s creative direction.

The spiral of a seashell became the centerpiece of the vision. Because food and dining have always been such an important part of our relationship, we wanted that form to shape the guest experience itself. When Alex of Earth and Events proposed enveloping guests within one large spiral tablescape for dinner, it became the heart of the celebration. We wanted to reinterpret “coastal” in a way that felt unexpected—organic, elevated, and slightly rebellious. Rather than traditional nautical references, the design explored sculptural forms, chrome details, ivory and stone tones, icy blues, pearlescent textures, and surrealist influences to create an atmosphere that felt otherworldly yet warm.

Our Team of Vendors

The wedding was a true collaboration with Alex of Earth and Events from the very beginning. Alex served as both planner and designer, helping amplify the emotional, sensory, and immersive qualities of the celebration while also guiding us through the practical realities of bringing a never-before-seen concept to life. I booked Cara Mia early in the planning process. I had followed Cara's work for years before becoming engaged and knew her imagery carried the moody, siren-like atmosphere that would perfectly capture the essence of the weekend. Beyond photography, Earth and Events helped curate and assemble the rest of our creative team, including Tumbleweed Floral Design, Let's Bash Events, Theoni Collection, Esthetic Bride, Ume Design, Duet Paper Co., Chef Kendrick Tsang, Fear the Feast, Ricky Meyer Films, The Content Bestie, Photomatica, and DJ Jatale. This team wasn't selected simply to execute a wedding—they were chosen to help build an entirely immersive world. Every vendor played an essential role in translating the Ocean Siren concept into an experience that guests could move through, touch, taste, photograph, and remember.

The Location

Stonepine Estate felt romantic, cinematic, and dreamlike from the moment we first visited. The expansive property features a beautiful château where we were able to stay with our closest family and wedding party throughout the weekend. The drive to the estate is lined with lush foliage, horses, and deer, immediately creating the feeling of arriving somewhere secluded and far removed from everyday life. That sense of escape was essential to our vision. The estate gave us the space to create distinct moments throughout the celebration—from a sunken garden ceremony to cocktail hour, an immersive outdoor dinner, and a late-night party inside a converted horse stable. Each setting allowed the experience to unfold in chapters rather than feeling like one continuous event.

The Ceremony

For the ceremony, we wanted the design to feel oceanic, botanical, and deeply organic—almost as though the landscape itself had naturally evolved into a romantic, sacred setting. We were married in the venue's sunken garden, which created an incredible sense of intimacy and depth. Rather than relying on anything overly polished or conventional, the design embraced natural textures, sculptural forms, and an effortless sense of movement, resulting in an atmosphere that felt both grounded and dreamlike.Our celebrant was Winston, a close family friend, which made the ceremony even more personal and meaningful. Having someone who knew us so well officiate the ceremony created a profound sense of connection with the people who have loved and supported us throughout our journey.

The Cocktail Hour

Cocktail hour carried the design language seamlessly into the next chapter of the celebration while giving guests time to gather, mingle, and immerse themselves in the world we had created. Food was a central part of our wedding from the very beginning, and cocktail hour featured Asian fusion hors d'oeuvres by Chef Kendrick Tsang in collaboration with Hall. Guests also enjoyed one of our favorite signature cocktails: lychee martinis.The signage and guest experience details during cocktail hour were especially meaningful. Emily Lawrence of Esthetic Bride created a seating chart trimmed with French lace, which was poetically displayed for guests to discover their tables.

It felt soft, romantic, and richly textural. Rather than functioning as a traditional seating chart, the textile installation added movement, elegance, and atmosphere to the space.Guests also enjoyed an interactive pop-up linen backdrop where they could take photographs. This installation created another memorable experience during cocktail hour while allowing guests to become part of the wedding's visual story before dinner began. The backdrop softened the space and introduced another layer of fabric, movement, and editorial texture to the overall guest experience.

The Reception

The reception centered around The Siren’s Table—a custom spiral dining table that became both the architectural and emotional heart of the evening. Because Rich and I have always built our relationship around nature, travel, the ocean, and memorable dining experiences, it felt natural for our wedding to revolve around a communal table—one that invited guests not just to witness the celebration, but to connect and become part of it. Throughout the design process, we continued returning to the language of the ocean: spirals, shells, organic forms, and the quiet geometry of a nautilus shell. After months of exploration, Alex of Earth and Events proposed a fully bespoke spiral tablescape that became the sculptural centerpiece of the evening. The finished table seated all 60 guests within one continuous form—both intimate and expansive.

What began as a simple spiral sketch evolved over nearly a year into a fully realized installation. Through hand-drawn concepts, renderings, and countless refinements, the vision became a handcrafted structure made of 20 curved sections that seamlessly formed one shell-like shape. The tablescape reimagined coastal design through an organic, experimental lens. Instead of traditional floral centerpieces, Kaylia of Tumbleweed Floral Design created arrangements that appeared to have emerged from the ocean itself. The palette drew from the natural tones of the sea—ivory, warm stone, icy blue, and chrome metallics—creating an atmosphere that felt coastal without being literal, luxurious without being excessive, and curated while still feeling naturally discovered. Lighting completed the experience. With sunset arriving around 5:00 p.m. in late November, the reception was designed around intimate pools of candlelight rather than overhead illumination. 

The Special Touches

Throughout the wedding, stationery and signage were treated as design objects rather than simply functional pieces. Esthetic Bride created a 50-foot silk welcome installation that introduced softness, movement, and dramatic scale to the arrival experience. The seating chart, finished with French lace, continued that textile-inspired language during cocktail hour, creating a poetic moment that immediately drew guests in. The invitation suite and tablescape stationery introduced a contrasting design language. Embracing chrome finishes and letterpress techniques, these pieces felt architectural, modern, and structured. The cake became another expression of the wedding’s organic design world. Inspired by California’s coastal landscapes, Fear the Feast created a cake that felt like a living work of art—artistic, elevated, and deeply connected to the environment surrounding the celebration.

One of the most editorial moments of the day centered around the whipped butter. As a passionate foodie, I loved Alex’s idea of treating food itself as a styling element. Rather than approaching detail photography traditionally, our planner, photographer, and cake artist collaborated to create a moment that blended food and fashion. My bridesmaids quietly pulled me aside, borrowed my jewelry, and asked me to trust the process. The after-party shifted the energy entirely. Held inside a converted horse stable, Earth and Events transformed the space with rich red lighting, a checkered dance floor, velvet drapery, chrome streamers, and a vintage 1950s-style photo booth by Photomatica. Photography was essential in preserving the atmosphere of the celebration. Cara Mia’s moody, siren-like aesthetic made her the perfect choice to capture a wedding defined by texture, emotion, and unexpected details. From the spiral table and silk installations to the chrome stationery, sculptural shell arrangements, red-lit after-party, and editorial butter styling, every element required an eye that could capture not only the design itself, but the feeling behind it.

Our Favorite Moment

The morning of our wedding was one of the sweetest and most memorable parts of the entire day. My maid of honor created a playlist, and the room was filled with dancing, laughter, and joyful silliness as everyone got ready together. It felt relaxed, joyful, and incredibly special to spend those hours with the people I love most before the celebration officially began.The dining experience was another defining moment of the day. The spiral table allowed Rich and me to be physically surrounded by our loved ones during dinner, creating a feeling that was both deeply intimate and truly extraordinary. It transformed the meal into an immersive, emotional experience unlike anything we had ever seen before.

Our Style

The Bridal Look

My wedding gown was designed by Israeli designer Adam Zohar and found locally at Aphrodite's Bridal in Laguna Beach—a name that felt especially fitting for an Ocean Siren wedding. I paired the gown with satin Jimmy Choo heels featuring pointed toes and crystal embellishments. I also wore my favorite mother-of-pearl necklace, a treasured gift from my best friend.For the after-party, I wanted a look that felt more like me and a little less traditionally bridal. I chose a daringly sheer gown by Into Gaia, embellished with crystals and intricate beadwork in dusky shades of gray, blue, and silver, and finished with a beaded chiffon neck scarf. Altogether, the look felt elegant, ethereal, and just a little otherworldly.

The Groom's Look

Rich wore a modern black slim-fit suit. One of my favorite details was his boutonniere, which featured mushrooms—a subtle reference to our dinner tablescape and a deeply personal touch, since "Mushroom" is his nickname for me.

For the Planning Process

Let your wedding reflect how you want people to feel, not just how you want it to look. The most meaningful celebrations are rooted in intention, where every decision—from the guest experience to the smallest design detail—supports the emotional atmosphere you hope to create.Trust the ideas that feel deeply personal to you, even if they seem unconventional. The spiral table, the Ocean Siren concept, the shell-inspired forms, the silk signage, the chrome stationery, the sculptural cake, and even the butter styling all required believing in ideas that didn't yet exist within the wedding world. When you build a team that truly understands your vision, those ideas often become even more beautiful in reality than you ever imagined.

For On The Day

Give yourself permission to be fully present in the world you've created. A wedding with this many thoughtful details requires an enormous amount of planning and trust beforehand, but once the day arrives, the most important thing you can do is let your team handle the logistics while you immerse yourself in the celebration.Notice how each space feels. Pay attention to your guests' reactions, the food, the music, the table, the changing light, and the people surrounding you. Those sensory memories become just as meaningful as the photographs you'll cherish afterward.

For Post-Wedding

Give yourself time to truly absorb the experience. After so much planning and anticipation, the wedding weekend can feel almost surreal once it's over. Allow yourself to revisit the memories slowly—through photographs, videos, conversations, and the small details you may not have fully appreciated in the moment.Some of the most meaningful parts of the celebration reveal themselves afterward, when you hear what your guests experienced, see the imagery for the first time, and realize how beautifully every piece came together.
