For Kem and Punn, Morocco wasn’t just a destination – it was the place where their hearts found a home. When it came time to say I do, they knew their wedding had to be more than just a celebration. It had to be an experience, an immersion into the colors, textures, and soul of the place where they fell in love. Set in a stunning botanical garden just 20 minutes from Marrakech, their wedding was a feast for the senses. The bursts of orange, yellow, and red mirrored the Moroccan sunset, while lush trees swayed gently in the breeze. Kem made a mesmerizing entrance, walking down an aisle of rich red Moroccan carpets. Dive into a wedding that didn’t just take place in Morocco, but truly felt like Morocco, beautifully captured by our talented members, Vlasta Weddings.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
We met on a night out in Bangkok through mutual friends in the summer of 2015. It was a friend’s birthday party at Sugar Ray, one of our favorite bars in the city. Funnily enough, the birthday girl that day actually designed Punn’s wedding ring.
The Proposal
I proposed to Kem on a rooftop in the West Village overlooking the Manhattan skyline. My friend lived in the building but didn’t have access to the one picturesque spot I was hoping for. So, I waited to catch a penthouse tenant and begged him to leave his terrace door unlocked for the occasion—and he obliged! We then took a cab and checked into a lovely hotel in Tribeca, where I surprised her with our closest friends, flowers I had bought from the deli, and some Joe’s Pizza.
The Engagement Ring
I worked on the design with one of Kem’s best friends, “O” from the brand Othongthai. From the outset, the goal was to create something that reflected Kem’s natural flair—somewhere right between understated and iced-out. Ultimately, I skewed toward the latter (why not?).
Our Wedding
The Vision
The vision was to give everyone the best glimpse of where we fell in love. Many of our friends and family from Thailand had never been to Morocco before, so we were incredibly excited to share that experience with them. It was just as much about the days leading up to the wedding as the wedding itself, which included two unforgettable “Arabian Nights” at L’Hotel Marrakech, nestled in the Souk.
Our Team of Vendors
Kem and I met the Vlasta duo at our friends’ wedding two years prior, absolutely loved their photography work, and also appreciated the energy they brought. Puci’s team took care of the videography and delivered beautifully. The venue owner’s daughter, Thais, introduced us to Swell Productions, who put together the perfect Funktion-One sound system for the parties. Last but not least, we have to thank Souhaila and the amazing team at Jnane Tamsna for helping us bring the wedding to life.
The Location
The wedding was at Jnane Tamsna, a botanical garden and boutique hotel in the Palmeraie District of Marrakech, 20 minutes from the city center. After seeing pictures online, I immediately knew this was the perfect place, and my mind never swayed elsewhere. A few months later, we visited in person, and I fell even deeper in love with the architecture, the bursts of orange, yellow, and red, the lush trees, and the visual emphasis on outdoor spaces. Above all, it felt like home and had so much charm, which was the quality we sought from the very beginning.
The Ceremony
The ceremony took place outdoors, in beautiful weather right before sunset. To kick things off, we mistakenly blasted half-spa, half-trance music. Kem made her entrance through a grove of olive trees and walked down an aisle of red Moroccan carpets to Snoh Aalegra’s DO 4 LOVE. The ceremony was presided over by my college roommate, Hicham, who is Moroccan (conveniently) and delivered a performance made perfect by the fact that he forgot the part with the rings.
The Reception
Our reception took place on the rooftop, overlooking a palm oasis and the Atlas Mountains (admittedly from very far). We had a live Moroccan jazz band perform, followed by a series of speeches from friends and family, open-mic style.
The Special Touches
As night fell, guests were guided from the rooftop by a troupe of belly dancers and drummers to a fire-and-candle-lit dinner beneath a long corridor of trees. The moment that blew my mind was when I laid eyes on the dinner setup for the first time—it was completely engulfed in what felt like a million candles. It honestly became difficult to focus for about 10 minutes. To cap things off, we were blessed to have an all-time great and our favorite DJ, Seth Troxler, play a very memorable set at the party (and the afterparty inside the hotel gift shop!).
Our Favorite Moment
When my 12-year-old niece, Wela, jumped on the mic to give the final speech, she started with, “I don’t know what to say,” but then proceeded to deliver a full and flawless soliloquy—even calling out the fact that Punn and I used to be on a break and that he used to give her “death stares” when she was four years old.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
I’ve always envisioned myself as a subtle kind of bride with a twist of unique touches. I wanted to feel timeless. With all four of my looks, it truly felt like love at first sight—when you know, you know! Each dress spoke to me in its own way, from the delicate tulle and structured corsets to the fluid silk jersey drapes, hand-painted florals, and sheer, asymmetrical embroidered dress. I just want to wear them all again!
The Groom Looks
For the welcome night, I wore a custom asymmetrical-cut suit from MANS Conceptwear, a brand I love from Spain. On the wedding day, I chose a night-blue tuxedo with peak satin lapels and simple black boots. Later that night, I changed into a white shirt with hand-embroidered floral-shaped beads.
Our Bridesmaids look
The bridesmaid dresses came from Kemissara Studio, my personal brand. There were multiple styles of pleated dresses in colors that matched the Moroccan décor, including shades of mustard yellow, orange, Persian red, copper, and cinnamon brown. More than just bridesmaids, they were what I call my "fairy godmothers"—my mum and her close-knit group of friends, who’ve been a constant presence in my life since childhood. I dressed them identically in this palette of vibrant colors, which they chose themselves. I thought they looked so cute!
Our Advice
For The Planning Process
Try to think of it as a fun life project between you and your best friend. Don’t overcook the ideas or over-magnify the details. When the wedding is over, you will only remember the fun parts that made the planning so worth it!
For On The Day
On the day, you might feel overwhelmed as nerves creep up and expectations fly high. Try not to drown yourselves under the wave of “next things on the schedule,” because you might find yourself missing the key moments you are presently in. Also, avoid a seven-day bender before getting married…
For Post-Wedding
If you can, find time to take a well-deserved break, whether it’s a honeymoon or simply staying at home reminiscing about the wedding night, looking through pictures, and calling up friends for “the debrief.” If possible, we recommend not immediately parting ways with your friends after the event—the debrief will be juicier that way!
