A Refined Multi-Day Wedding with an Iconic Reception at the Pyramids of Giza

An interplay of intimacy and grandeur, from London to the Pyramids

Monika and Vivek’s wedding was conceived as a study in place, where each setting shaped the atmosphere and every detail responded to its surroundings. From the soft light of the Nile to the architectural grandeur of Cairo, the celebration moved with intention, building towards a reception of extraordinary rarity: an evening at the Great Pyramids of Giza. With no precedent to follow, the event was entirely imagined from the ground up – a custom-built space rising from the desert in muted sand and clay tones, designed to exist in quiet harmony with the landscape. The experience was immersive yet restrained, balancing scale with sensitivity. Candlelight, tailored structures, and thoughtful spatial design created a sense of intimacy within vastness, while every element – from the flow of the evening to the placement of each detail – was guided by respect for history and a desire to create something deeply personal.

Our Love Story

The Day We Met

We first met in 2015 while studying at neighbouring universities in London: Vivek at the London School of Economics and Monica at King’s College London. Although we had known each other since university, our connection deepened towards the end of 2019, when we realised how much we shared: the same values, a similar ambition, and a love of travel, culture, and building a meaningful life together.

The Proposal

In February 2024, we travelled to Nepal to trek to Everest Base Camp, a dream years in the making. For two weeks, Vivek secretly carried the ring in his backpack while we made our way through the Himalayas. At the end of the trek, we flew to Jaipur, where the next chapter of our story unfolded. On the rooftop of Samode Palace at sunset, with the palace entirely to ourselves and fireworks illuminating the sky, Vivek got down on one knee. It felt impossibly private, deeply special, and completely removed from the world.

The Engagement Ring

The engagement ring was custom-made by Vivek’s father, a fifth-generation jeweller, who made all of the jewellery for the wedding celebrations. That made the proposal, and every look that followed, feel even more personal.

Our Wedding

The Vision

We wanted the celebration to feel layered, intentional, and deeply personal—a reflection of our British, Indian, and Egyptian ties, but also of the life we have built together through travel, culture, and shared ambition. Above all, we wanted every event to feel true to its setting. The experience had to be spectacular, but never at the expense of meaning. Especially in Egypt, every detail was reviewed with extraordinary care by the Egyptian authorities, and our vision was always to create something beautiful while respecting the monuments, their history, and their cultural significance.

Our Team of Vendors

Our celebration came to life through an exceptional team that included photographer Naman Verma, videographer House On The Clouds, our family priest from London, and a wider group of planners, architects, and preservation specialists working in collaboration with the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities and the relevant authorities. It took nearly two years to plan, required several visits to Cairo, and brought together vendors and collaborators from around the world.

The Location

Our wedding unfolded across two countries and several extraordinary settings. We began with an intimate registry ceremony at Marylebone Town Hall in London, followed by a reception at St James’s Court Hotel. Our larger celebration then took place in Egypt from 3 to 6 September 2025, across Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah, Dahab Island Palace on the Nile, and finally the Great Pyramids of Giza.

The Ceremony

Day one was a traditional Haldi ceremony on the banks of the Nile at Sofitel Cairo El Gezirah, shared with our closest family and friends. Led by our family priest from London, it felt joyful, intimate, and full of color. Day two brought our Hindu wedding at Dahab Island Palace, an island palace on the Nile. Guests crossed the river by boat before arriving in the palace gardens. We were married beneath a floral mandap draped in soft pink hues, before dining alfresco in the palace courtyard, framed by palace walls and thousands of fairy lights, then dancing late into the night after dinner.

The Reception

Our final evening took place at the Great Pyramids of Giza, a celebration that felt almost impossible until it became real. Only two other couples had ever been permitted to celebrate there before us, and we were the first British couple in history to do so. There was no blueprint, so every element had to be conceptualised and built from scratch. Once the tourists had departed and the gates closed, the plateau became our backdrop. Over ten nights, a custom-made venue was constructed around the Sphinx setting, complete with a purpose-built kitchen and the full infrastructure needed for the reception, in sand and clay tones so it blended seamlessly into the desert landscape.

Every structural, logistical, and design detail had to be signed off in advance by the Egyptian government and the authorities overseeing the site, and we were intent on ensuring that everything was built with genuine respect for the monuments, their history, and their cultural significance. We made our entrance beneath the illuminated Pyramids before sharing our first dance, and dinner was served at the foot of the Sphinx, with the monuments rising dramatically behind us.

The Special Touches

So many of the details carried meaning. All of the jewellery was custom-made by Vivek’s father, a fifth-generation jeweller, and every element at the Pyramids was designed to feel considered, immersive, and deeply personal while remaining respectful of the site and its extraordinary history. Even the purpose-built venue was shaped by our culture and heritage, so the setting felt not only spectacular, but deeply personal to us.

Our Favorite Moment

There were countless unforgettable moments, but standing beneath the illuminated Pyramids and Sphinx, as hundreds of approved biodegradable lanterns were released into the night sky and everything suddenly felt still, felt truly surreal. It was one of those rare moments when you realise you are living inside a memory you will carry forever.

Our Style

The Bridal Looks

We wanted every look to speak to the many parts of our story, so the bridal wardrobe drew on British, Indian, and Egyptian influences. Bridal looks by Dolly J brought richness and romance, while the jewellery, custom-made by Vivek’s father, gave each look an added sense of heritage and sentiment.

The Groom Looks

Huntsman anchored the groom’s wardrobe with sharp, impeccably cut tailoring. Heritage pieces brought in family history and gave the looks depth and continuity across the celebrations.

Our Advice

For the Planning Process

Hold tightly to your vision, but stay flexible in how you get there. Some of the most beautiful results come from collaboration, patience, and trusting the right people, especially when you are doing something with real logistical complexity.

For On The Day

Let yourself be present. The details matter, but what stays with you most is the feeling, the people, the emotion, and the quiet flashes of disbelief that this is your life and your love story unfolding in real time.

For Post-Wedding

Give yourselves permission to pause. Taking time to exhale after the celebrations felt so important after such an intense and unforgettable few days. The experience also made us think more intentionally about giving back, especially through charitable work close to our hearts. In many ways, the wedding felt like the beginning of a new chapter rather than the end of one.
