Step into a world where old-world romance meets contemporary allure—Charlotte and Obie’s wedding in Perth was a Modern Renaissance dream infused with Phantom of the Opera drama, rich sensuality, and timeless elegance. The ceremony, held in a breathtaking cathedral, was pure magic as the organ played from above, elevating the moment into something truly celestial. And then, Charlotte appeared—a vision in a bespoke gown featuring a hand-beaded corset and a three-meter train. The celebration continued with tablescapes dripped with ripe pomegranates and candles, symbolizing love, passion, and abundance. Captured beautifully by Renee Green, this wasn’t just a wedding—it was an experience, one that left every guest utterly enchanted.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
We met during COVID through one of Obie's groomsmen via a popular online video game called League of Legends! A couple of games later, and Obie had a big crush on me!
The Proposal
On February 15, 2023, Obie proposed to me during a family holiday in South Africa. We were staying at Singita Lodge in the Sabi Sands, and Obie had organized an afternoon picnic! Before that, he sent me on a little scavenger hunt that led me to the picnic. Afterwards, we celebrated with my family.
The Engagement Ring
Obie designed a bespoke ring with HLSK, featuring a lilac sapphire and diamond clusters.
Our Wedding
The Vision
Modern Renaissance! A fusion of sexy Renaissance, Phantom of the Opera, and jazz bar vibes—our wedding was truly a reflection of us. We envisioned a modern Renaissance celebration with a touch of allure and theatrical drama, and we brought it to life! We incorporated elements like pomegranates (my favorite fruit) and other carefully chosen details to create a unique yet intimate atmosphere. Candles played a crucial role in our lighting design, as we both adore their warm glow and the perfect ambiance they create for an unforgettable evening.
Our Team of Vendors
We were lucky to find Confetti and Co., a Perth-based events team that introduced us to the most incredible vendors. We are still in awe of how they took our vision and transformed it into something so breathtaking. Finding a team that truly understands your vision is invaluable.
The Location
Our wedding took place in Perth, Western Australia. The ceremony was held at St. George’s Cathedral, a venue we chose the moment we stepped inside. The awe-inspiring beauty of the church—the stained-glass windows, the grand arching beams, and the classic architecture—perfectly aligned with our vision. The ability to have candles inside, paired with the choir singing and the organ playing from above, made it an absolute dream come true.
The Ceremony
The most incredible moment of my life—and one of the most nerve-wracking! The morning of the ceremony felt like it stretched on forever as I waited to see Charlotte at the end of the aisle. Even now, thinking about the moment I first saw her brings tears to my eyes. Our ceremony was nothing short of spectacular, and having our closest family and friends there to share in this moment made it even more special. It was perfect.
The Reception
Our reception was held at Como The Treasury, and it couldn’t have been a better choice. Located just meters from St. George’s Cathedral, it remains one of my favorite buildings in Perth. The main hall provided the perfect backdrop—soaring ceilings with glass panels showcasing the night sky, a beautiful mezzanine on the second floor, warm ambient lighting, and white stone and marble details—all seamlessly aligning with the elegance of our ceremony. Walking into the reception and seeing Charlotte take it all in for the first time is a memory I will cherish forever.
The Special Touches
Charlotte: "Obie's wedding gift to me was a hand-painted and engraved Jo Malone perfume, along with a stunning Simone Rocha necklace."
Obie: "Charlotte gave me my dream watch for this very day—something I never could have imagined. It was the perfect finishing touch to my suit, and I couldn’t have asked for anything better! Along with that, the beautifully hand-painted cards and heartfelt notes she wrote me the night before and the morning of the ceremony made everything even more special."
Our Favorite Moment
Charlotte: "Seeing Obie at the end of the aisle, framed by the beautiful stained-glass windows, the flickering candles, and the choir’s voices—it was a real ‘pinch me’ moment! Second to that was putting on my dress for the first time."
Obie: "It has to be seeing Charlotte for the first time at the end of the aisle. Leading up to that moment, I was overwhelmed with emotions, unsure how I would react with so much going on. But the second I saw her, it felt like a massive weight had been lifted off my shoulders. To say she looked incredibly beautiful is an understatement..."
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
I wore a bespoke gown by Ingrid Hocking Couture. Ingrid and I designed my dress together—she took my ideas and created the most beautiful (and comfortable) gown I have ever worn. It was important to me to have two distinct looks: sleeves and a 3-meter train for the ceremony, which were later removed for the reception. The gown was hand-beaded, made from vintage jewelry and duchess silk. I was heavily inspired by tiny corsets, Spanish veils, drop waists, and drama!
The Groom Looks
I always wanted a style that felt timeless and truly matched the overall vibe of the wedding. After trying on several suit styles, I ultimately chose a classic tuxedo with subtle alterations and unique features to make it my own. The suit was custom-made by the incredible team at Oscar Hunt, and I couldn't have asked for a more perfect fit.
Our Bridesmaid’s and Groomsmen’s Looks
My Maid of Honor, McKenzie, wore a stunning velvet-burgundy bespoke gown by Ingrid Hocking Couture. I had a very clear vision in mind, and with the perk of having only one bridesmaid, I was able to create a truly regal gown for her. And just like the groom, we wanted a timeless, classic tuxedo look that seamlessly matched the elegant yet unique style of the wedding. The groomsmen pulled it off perfectly.
