Andrea and Oscar brought a distinctly personal vision to Los Cabos, trading the expected wedding formula for a celebration shaped by thoughtful design, exceptional food, and an atmosphere that felt effortlessly intimate. Warm, inviting, and refreshingly untraditional, the evening centered on communal dining with fine wines, champagne, and jazz that gradually gave way to the energy of the dance floor. Every detail felt considered without being overworked, from the couple’s personal selection of the menu and music to the relaxed setting designed to bring everyone together. With Marianna Idirin, wedding planner and THE WED member, translating their vision into a seamless experience, and Monica Varas, photographer and fellow THE WED member, capturing its most meaningful moments, Andrea and Oscar’s wedding was a celebration of connection, individuality, and the kind of understated elegance that never needs to announce itself.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
We met through one of Oscar’s best friends, who was my brother-in-law at the time and had been telling each of us about the other for a while. He always found it funny that Oscar and I share the same birthday—we were both born on December 9, eleven years apart. Before we officially met, Oscar had seen me once at a restaurant, and he later told me that his first thought was, “I’m going to marry her.”
Our first date was a boat ride to a beach near where we live. From that very first day, we began to discover how much we had in common and how easy it was to be together. One thing we still laugh about is that Oscar seemed so certain we would eventually get married that, while we were still just getting to know each other, he was already negotiating with me about continuing his golf and diving trips with friends after we got married. Somehow, talking about our future together felt completely natural from the very beginning.
The Proposal
Oscar invited me to Los Angeles to see a John Mayer concert together, and I had absolutely no idea what he had planned. Before the concert, we went to Harriet’s, a rooftop venue where some of our friends were waiting for us. While we were sitting together, he gave me the ring and asked me to marry him. It was a very intimate moment, and afterward, we celebrated at Avra Beverly Hills, where another group of our friends was waiting for us.
The Engagement Ring
Oscar chose the diamond entirely on his own. He knew I had always loved round diamonds, so he personally selected the stone and then had the setting custom-made for me. I had never shown him a specific design, so the ring was a complete surprise.
Our Wedding
The Vision
We had originally planned to get married two years earlier, but life led us to take a pause. When we revisited the idea of having a wedding, we had a much clearer sense of what we wanted: an intimate celebration surrounded only by the people we truly wanted there. We wanted great wine, thoughtful details, and a setting that felt removed from the traditional or more commercial wedding venues. Above all, we wanted every decision to reflect who we are.
Our Team of Vendors
Marianna, our wedding planner and a longtime friend of ours in Los Cabos, immediately understood what we had in mind. We trusted her completely and left the execution in her hands, although Oscar and I were both involved in the important decisions. She was essential in bringing our vision to life, and Mónica Varas, our photographer, was another key part of capturing the essence of the wedding exactly as we experienced it.
The Location
We chose Los Cabos because it is a place we return to constantly and one that feels like a second home to us. We have shared so many important moments there that getting married in Los Cabos always felt natural, with Zadún, a Ritz-Carlton Reserve, serving as our home base for the wedding. We chose Puerto Raíz for the reception because we wanted our guests to experience a different side of Los Cabos and discover that, beyond its beaches, there are also unexpected and magical places.
The Ceremony
We chose the Misión de San José del Cabo because it is right in the historic center, surrounded by the picturesque charm of a small Mexican town. We wanted our guests to experience the area itself as part of the weekend. The ceremony felt very intimate and family-oriented, with our aunts, uncles, and the people closest to us surrounding us.
The Cocktail Hour
The cocktail hour took place in a space adjacent to the reception, with high-top tables and a relaxed atmosphere. We served champagne, white wine, and a few special cocktails, accompanied by jazz music. We wanted it to be a moment when we could personally welcome our guests and spend time with them after the ceremony, while the mood gradually shifted toward the celebration.
The Reception
For the reception, we wanted to create a warm atmosphere that felt different from that of a traditional wedding. Dinner was prepared by Semillón, led by Javier Plascencia. Instead of serving a conventional multicourse menu, the dishes were placed in the center of the tables to be shared, almost like one big dinner among friends. We loved how relaxed it made the evening feel and how naturally it encouraged everyone to interact.
The Special Touches
It was important to us to be personally involved in many of the details. A month before the wedding, we went to Semillón to taste different dishes and chose the menu together. We also personally selected the champagne and wines that would be served. We brought in our DJ from outside Los Cabos because we wanted the music to create exactly the atmosphere we had imagined. They were small decisions, but together, they gave the celebration a personality that felt uniquely ours.
Our Favorite Moment
My favorite moment was our first look. It was a mix of emotions that I still find difficult to describe—happiness, nerves, and a feeling I had never experienced before. I also remember a moment during dinner when I looked around and saw everyone enjoying themselves, talking, and fully present at their tables. It was beautiful to realize that the wedding was unfolding exactly as we had imagined it.
Our Style
The Bridal Look
I found my dress at Vélum, a bridal boutique in Hermosillo, on my very first visit. I went with my sisters and aunts, and after trying on several options, they insisted that I try a dress I had initially dismissed because it was nothing like what I had imagined for myself. The moment I put it on, I knew it was the one. It was a Marchesa Couture design in collaboration with Pronovias, which I paired with blue Manolo Blahnik shoes.
The Groom’s Look
Oscar chose a classic black tuxedo with a white shirt and black bow tie. Finding the perfect bow tie became a whole process—he ordered and returned several because none of them looked quite the way he wanted until he found one by Tom Ford with exactly the shape he had been looking for. He completed the look with Santoni shoes and Jacques Marie Mage eyewear.
Our Advice
For the Planning Process
Enjoy the planning process, too, and try not to get overwhelmed by the little things. For us, it was incredibly important to choose a wedding planner we truly trusted and to allow ourselves to rely on her rather than trying to control every detail.
For On The Day
Once the day arrives, stop worrying about whether everything is happening exactly as you planned. At that point, there is nothing left to change, so the best thing you can do is let go and enjoy every minute. The day goes by much faster than you can imagine.
For Post-Wedding
Give yourselves a little time to rest after the wedding. The planning process and the wedding day itself come with so many emotions and so much accumulated exhaustion that, for us, it was important to slow down, rest, and take in everything we had experienced before leaving for our honeymoon.
