The Mood Board: Coastal Chic

| By Kayla McFadden
Pearls, oysters, and ocean blue hues defining the new era of seaside celebrations

Not every beach wedding calls for palm trees and bright tropical blooms. Some of the most captivating seaside celebrations are inspired by more moody, ethereal coastlines, with weathered docks, rugged cliff faces, crisp misty sea sprays, and details swept from the deep ocean. We've gathered all the essential elements to encapsulate the mermaid-inspired aesthetic, from luminous mother-of-pearl accents to sculptural oyster cakes, fishnet-like crochet table linens, and subtle nods to marine life.

For the color palette, soft blue, deep pewters and warm whites are a natural pairing for any coastal celebration, echoing the meeting of sky and sea or waves crashing along the shoreline. Grassy floral arrangements add an airy sense of movement, reminiscent of beach grass swaying in the ocean breeze. Weathered fabrics, corroded metals and sea urchin textures introduce an organic richness that feels as though every detail has been washed ashore rather than carefully curated. Seashells become collected treasures that appear throughout the celebration—scattered across the tablescape, transformed into delicate nail art, or reimagined as charming motifs on the wedding cake. If your dream wedding captures the feeling of a long weekend in a charming New England beach town, these are the details that will bring that coastal vision to life.
