Yass and Jorim's intimate wedding at the exclusive Villa Miani was the epitome of romance. Set high above the eternal city of Rome, this private villa was the perfect backdrop for their colorful and elegant celebration, an idyllic wedding that embodied the essence of a timeless European celebration and traditional cultural elements. Villa Miani's manicured gardens and classic charm set the stage for a weekend filled with love and beauty. The outdoor ceremony took place on the villa's gorgeous lawn, surrounded by vibrant flowers that created a lush and colorful ambiance. Yass shone in a unique floral gown and matching veil, perfectly complementing the vivid flowers that adorned the space. At the reception, long winding tables arranged around the dance floor overlooked the breathtaking views of Rome, offering guests a gorgeous setting to enjoy the night. An unforgettable wedding weekend, the perfect blend of romance, style and Italian opulence.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
We met in College, in Organic Chemistry. I had the biggest crush on Jorim, but, classically, he was clueless about this. With Jorim leaving for medical school, we decided to remain friends. However, in 2018, when Jorim was back visiting home, we reunited for dinner, and the flame between us was reignited. Our “chemistry” was undeniable! Despite the challenges of long-distance travel, we decided to take a chance. Over the next few years, we relied heavily on phone calls and FaceTime dates. We discovered the real value of what it takes to build a true and lasting relationship. Long distance was not easy, but we are forever grateful for those times we spent apart that made each moment together so special.
The Proposal
Jorim knew exactly where he wanted to propose from the moment we visited Gray Whale Cove Beach in Northern California back in 2019. Since then, we have made an annual trip to this special spot. On October 22, 2023, Jorim planned a heartfelt surprise by coordinating with my future bridesmaids, who flew out from all over the states, to set up the proposal scene on the beach. Of course, despite being the windiest day of the year, with multiple sandstorm warnings in effect, Jorim managed to beautifully arrange flowers and candles before I arrived.
The Engagement Ring
Jorim designed my ring, knowing I love an Emerald Cut diamond. He worked with Raven Fine Jewelers, to execute the most beautiful and timeless ring I have ever seen. He picked a two-toned ring with a thin rose gold band with diamonds all around and a hidden halo silver setting. Jorim picked a five-carat diamond, one carat for every year we had been together. Lucky me!
Our Wedding
The Vision
The vision for our wedding was intimate and romantic. We wanted a private villa with views, which led us to find the most beautiful grand venue, Villa Miani. With Jorim’s Indian background, we wanted to incorporate bold and colorful florals for the ceremony and reception.
Our Team of Vendors
Finding a wedding planner whose vision aligned with ours and was easy to communicate with on a daily basis was a priority. Simona, from Brilliant Wedding, exceeded all expectations, pouring her heart and soul into every detail of our celebration. We built a lasting relationship, and we still catch up post-wedding! Our team of photographers/videographers allowed us to pose naturally, and we felt so comfortable with them. Luckily, even before I was engaged, I knew Nikita would be my wedding photographer. I had been admiring his creative work on Instagram for years, and working with him was a dream come true.
The Location
We had always envisioned an Intimate European wedding weekend in Italy, and we were incredibly fortunate that our closest family and friends traveled from near and far to help make this dream a reality. We selected Villa Miani for our celebration because it perfectly captured the essence of our ideal destination wedding. Likewise, we wanted a private villa with a late curfew for the after-party and panoramic views of Rome. With its architecture and manicured gardens, Villa Miani’s timeless charm created an extraordinary atmosphere that matched the romantic ambiance we had envisioned.
The Ceremony
Our ceremony was a mix of traditional and modern American. We had a “Sofreh Aged” table as part of the traditional Persian ceremony. The table has symbolic items to bless us in our union. It was designed by Niusha with N.E Design studios, with all handmade designs to fit our style and backgrounds. The guests all had a pamphlet explaining the elements and meanings of each item on the Sofreh. We had an outdoor ceremony with colorful, lush florals on the gorgeous lawn of Villa Miani. Our close friends and family were our officiants, who honored both cultures and delivered a heartwarming ceremony.
The Reception
It was raining every day in Rome that week, so I had accepted our fate and was mentally preparing for our Plan B, to move the wedding indoors. Magically, we woke up the morning of our wedding to clear, sunny skies. We felt so incredibly lucky! Our Reception took place in the iconic courtyard. We chose “S”-shaped long tables, presented around our dance floor, facing the scenery of Rome. Jorim and I are big foodies, so dinner was very important to us. We had traditional Italian pasta and steak, with a buffet table of fresh cheeses and meats for our cocktail hour.
The Special Touches
I surprised both Jorim and our guests with a traditional Italian Opera singer at dinner. Simone Baldazzi traveled from Rimini to Rome to sing at our reception, and his performance was spectacular! It was also important to us to weave in elements from both Jorim’s Indian and my Persian backgrounds. For the ceremony, we featured a handcrafted paisley on our Sofreh Aghd, inscribed with the word “Love” in both Farsi and Hindi. We brought some of these meaningful items back to the States and now display them as part of our home décor.
Our Favorite Moment
Incorporating intimate moments where Jorim and I could be alone together was really special. Before our guests arrived at the villa, we exchanged private vows beneath the grand trees in the gardens of Miani. We had a quiet, personal moment before joining our friends and family. Later, after the reception, while our guests enjoyed the after-party indoors, Jorim and I slipped away for a walk around the villa, soaking in our wedding day together.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
For our welcome party, I wore a traditional Indian dress that was a custom Lehenga designed by Meghan and Jigar. For the wedding day, I always envisioned a 3D floral gown. My sister and I flew to Milan in 2023 to find my wedding dress. I instantly knew when I tried it on. The gown immediately complimented the vision I had for our outdoor wedding, and I felt as if it was made for me. I wore a floral matching veil designed by Ines Di Santo. For the ceremony, I wore my hair down with loose Hollywood curls, then had it changed into a high updo bun for cocktail hour and the reception. I was able to find the perfect short reception dress by Watters that complimented my wedding gown to dance the night away in.
The Groom Look
Jorim wore a Hugo Boss Classic Tux and bowtie with Tom Ford Shoes.
Our Bridesmaid’s Looks
I wanted my bridesmaids to pick dresses that reflected their individual styles, so I encouraged them to choose their own outfits. I wanted a palette of pink shades for our photos, and they truly delivered!! The dresses came from a range of designers, including Della Couture, Marchesa Notte, House of CB, and Show Me Your Mumu. I gifted each of them a unique pajama set to wear while getting ready for the wedding day.
Our Advice
For The Planning Process
The vendors and your wedding planner play a crucial role in shaping your wedding experience. For us, it was essential to select people we not only trusted, but also shared our values and vision with. We loved planning the little details that made our wedding uniquely memorable for both us and our guests. Always keep in mind that your wedding should reflect your personal style, so don’t feel pressured by external opinions or the latest trend. It’s perfectly fine to forgo trends and focus on creating a day that truly represents you as a couple. Planning will be stressful, and there will be disagreements, but nothing is more important than your love for each other. Remember that!
For On The Day
Of course, the biggest piece of advice everyone gave me was to make sure to spend time together on our wedding day. The day goes by so fast. Despite the traditional approach of not seeing each other until your first look, we chose to start the morning together at our Airbnb before joining our bridesmaids and groomsmen to get ready. It is also very important to have the mindset that things won't always go as planned, but the imperfections and your attitude towards these moments really make the wedding day memorable. This is the day you spent your childhood dreaming of. Enjoy every moment with your partner, family and friends. Everyone is here for you, embrace it and have fun!
For Post-Wedding
Go on your dream honeymoon! It’s a wonderful opportunity to enjoy quality time with your partner, reflect on the year or so of planning that brought you here, and simply unwind. There's nothing quite like sharing that special trip and thinking, “We did it!” Your honeymoon marks the start of your new journey together, so embrace this transition and take pride in all you’ve accomplished.
