The wedding of fashion influencer Khanh Linh and Vu Minh Kong was a perfect blend of classic elegance and contemporary flair, set against the backdrop of Vietnam's rich cultural heritage. This stylish celebration drew inspiration from both the timeless charm of vintage aesthetics and the vibrant traditions of Vietnamese weddings, creating a unique and memorable experience. The couple chose a color concept of red and white, and the combination of them created an atmosphere of romance and celebration, perfectly capturing the essence of the couple's love story. The bespoke designer lace gown, while modern in its simplicity, retained a distinctly Vietnamese feel, highlighting Khanh Linh's appreciation of her cultural roots. To complete her look, the bride accessorized with a stunning headpiece that added a beautiful touch, reminiscent of classic bridal styles, yet perfectly suited to her personal taste.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
We had met in a working situation. I was a commercial model, he was a fashion brand owner, and he booked me for the lookbook photoshoot. My first impression of him was that he was timid, quiet, and very detailed when we were working. I also found out he had excellent taste in fashion and architecture, especially when we had a photo shoot set up in his apartment. I felt something after several times we met through work, so I decided to text him a message to ask him out to a movie theater. It took me days to do it because I was thinking a lot about what would ruin our relationship at work. After all, he was a potential client.
Then we fell in love quickly, and we shared fashion as a passion. I became a fashion influencer, and we had our first fashion week 6 years ago. He has always been beside me every week, always being there and supporting me, but almost behind the camera because he is very camera shy. I could say he had encouraged me a lot when I stepped into the fashion industry. I was young and new, and I wanted to try so many things. He also had a sharp view of the fashion industry, which helped me a lot.
The Proposal
That was a brilliant and emotional experience that I will never forget. He planned a surprise proposal on a yacht. That trip was a work trip that I was invited to by the resort, so I had no doubt. And on the yacht trip, we even have another couple together and some of my friends. I remember that he was so anxious and even sick. He waited until the sunset came, the trip stopped for the view, and he randomly kneeled to propose. I was shocked and had the ugliest crying photos on my proposal day, and my nails were even undone so badly. It was hilarious to flash back.
Our Wedding
The Vision
I have always been inspired by classic and vintage inspiration, that’s why I came up with the idea of my wedding gown and also my AO DAI. But, we are Gen X and born in modern times, so as you can see, the concept is quite contemporary. In Vietnam, the traditional wedding is the time both family and relatives would come and greet each other, so usually there would be so many people. However, this time we tried to convince my parents that we wanted a small and cozy wedding so that we could talk and take care of the guests, and lucky for us, they agreed with us.
We had our traditional wedding with family at the end of last year, and we chose a very nice space with a river view and quiet, serene surroundings. For me, the wedding was a special but quite stressful occasion, so we wanted somewhere to relax and enjoy the view with family. We also wanted our wedding to fuse Vietnamese tradition with a bit of modern style, and Giang, our wedding planner, helped a lot to achieve our vision. We chose red and white for the color concept to really stand out against the scenery.
Our Team of Vendors
Our wedding planner Giang helped me a lot with the styling for our traditional wedding. We have a big red Sino-Vietnamese vocabulary word that means “Happy” in the backdrop, which was beautiful and photogenic.
The Special Touches
We had a DJ and some friends that can sing well, so they performed for us. It was really fun, and we had a memorable time together. Another special moment was when he took me from the bride's room. In Vietnam, we have a ceremony called “bride taking,” in which the groom has to wait until the right time (a lucky hour on the calendar) to meet the bride and ask her parents to take her home. The bride needs to wait in her private room for the groom. It was an emotional experience, and I feel like we met again for the first time.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
I had my vision for my wedding gown and I was lucky enough to have my favorite designer, Ha Truong, a very demure and sophisticated woman, make my gown. I told her I wanted something with lace that was classy and vintage but still had a Vietnamese vibe, and she came up with the idea of a lace dress in the form of an Ao Dai, and the hair with a very exquisite veil.
Our Advice
For The Planning Process
Communication is key. Both will feel pressure and stress, there will be small and subtle things that you feel aren't necessary to talk about, but when more important things come up you should be open to talk.
For On The Day
You can prepare everything, but when the special day comes, stop, let it happen, and enjoy the experience. Let go and let the universe help you to have the best wedding experience.
