Strong and healthy nails are not only a sign of beauty but they also reflect our overall well-being. So, if you've got a wedding or any special event soon, make sure to include nail care in your beauty routine. Looking for advice? Below, we've put together some simple tips to follow.
Choose Gentle Products
Nails are very delicate, so treat them with care and love. Whenever choosing your nail products, like nail removers and polishes, always read the labels and keep an eye out for the ingredients. The thing is, many of these products contain harsh chemicals that can weaken your nails and even dry them. To avoid any damage, stay away from acetone-based nail removers and nail polishes with formaldehyde. Instead, look out for formulas containing ingredients such as soy and oils for extra hydration.
Moisturize Your Nails and Cuticles
Just like our skin, our nails and cuticles need some moisturizing too. To hydrate and nourish them, use nutrient-rich creams and oils. Products containing coconut oil, sunflower oil or Brazil nut oil are all great options to consider. Take a small amount of cream or oil on your fingertips, then give your nails and cuticles a gentle massage. Don't forget to be consistent and do this beauty ritual at least once a day. Your nails will thank you!
Don't Use Gel or Acrylic Nails Too Often
Gel and acrylic nails are a popular choice, especially for people who have trouble growing their nails. However, it's important to remember that using them too often can in fact make your nails weaker. So avoid wearing them all the time! Also, the UV light used for gel polish isn't completely harmless. It can actually make the skin around your nails age faster, which is not great for maintaining their health.
Go for Shorter Nails
Prirotize health of your nails over their length. Long nails might look fancy and elegant, but they can easily break, split, or get stuck on things. Instead, go for shorter nails with rounded edges, at least for a period of time. This will give your nails a chance to grow stronger and healthier. Plus, shorter nails are way easier to handle and keep neat.
Maintain a Well-Balanced Diet
Another important tip is sticking to a well-balanced and varied diet. As you may know, our nails are made from a protein called keratin, so protein-rich foods like beans, lean meat, fish and nuts should definitely top your menu. Also, eat more fruits, vegetables and, of course, drink lots of water. To see even better results, start taking vitamins and supplements such as Biotin, Vitamin E, and fish oil. Before adding them to your daily regimen, though, speak with your healthcare professional.
Minimize Exposure to Water
Water can actually cause your nails to become weaker. Not fun, right? The reason is that when our nails soak up too much water, they expand and become more flexible. As they dry out, they shrink and become brittle. So, when washing dishes or doing some cleaning, make sure to wear gloves to minimize the exposure.
