A three-day celebration that unfolded in the heart of Provence, where simplicity and sophistication met in perfect harmony – a true bridal dream. Nestled in the sun-soaked countryside, the breathtaking Le Petit Roulet, a charming Provençal farmhouse near Avignon, set the stage for Shona and Martin’s wedding story. Every detail, though understated, was meticulously crafted, from the warm rustic elegance of the farmhouse to the quiet luxury of the décor. The ceremony itself was a vision – Shona, radiant in a stunning lace bridal gown, and Martin, effortlessly stylish in a Jacquemus oversized suit, exchanged their vows surrounded by the scent of lavender and the embrace of golden sunlight. Be ready to meet a true Provençal style – intimate, elegant, and utterly full of life and love.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
He has been my best friend since our sophomore year of high school. We had been friends for years, and one day we realized there was something much deeper between us. He’s my favorite human on earth, my best friend, my confident and now my husband.
The Proposal
He proposed to me in front of the most stunning view in all of Namibia, at the Habitas hotel. The restaurant was empty; he ordered two glasses of wine and quietly popped the question. So discreetly, in fact, that even the waiters didn’t notice. It was perfectly us—simple and understated. No music, no roses, no drones to capture the moment!
The Engagement Ring
It's a Kinn, a brand from Los Angeles that I love. The diamond reflects the proposal—stunning yet subtle, as it’s set within the ring’s structure. The diamond is truly beautiful. I wanted a ring that felt both modern and timeless.
Our Wedding
The Vision
I'm the Image director of a Parisian studio that creates content for luxury brands. My job is to imagine worlds and make creative choices, so my vision for the wedding was quite clear. We saw the wedding as a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to share an intense moment of happiness with everyone we love. So, we envisioned a three-day celebration in a beautiful Provencal farmhouse, giving us enough time to truly enjoy the company of our guests. We wanted something simple, yet with every detail sophisticated, and in good taste and full of charm.
Our Team of Vendors
In keeping with our desire to be surrounded by loved ones and to create something that reflected us, most of the vendors were friends or people I had previously worked with and felt a certain connection to. Jacquie Club (Victoria), the caterer, was a young entrepreneur I had met at the very start of her journey nearly two years ago, and I wanted to place my trust in her for this important occasion. It wasn’t the easiest choice, as we had to bring her down from Paris to the South, but her work was simply fabulous. For my hair and makeup, I chose a very good friend with whom I regularly work on shoots, Helena Henrion. For the photography, I didn’t want a typical wedding photographer, as I often find that style a bit outdated. Instead, I fell in love with Ramone’s eye. He’s incredibly talented and quickly understood my vision, following the direction I had given him perfectly.
For the music, we had the pleasure to have DJ Coco who’s a friend and also a young talent with a promising future (Dapper). I also had two other DJ friends who made fantastic appearances throughout the event. For the flowers, we worked with a floral artist I admire from Marseille, Acampa (Augustine Tisserand). She followed my rather complex request to the letter. It’s quite a challenge to have dark and neutral-toned flowers in the summer, but she pulled it off. As for the table decor, I spent a year treasure hunting at flea markets and second-hand sales. Each piece, every plate, was carefully chosen by me, and I absolutely loved the process.
The Location
We wanted a majestic venue, but nothing over the top. We instantly fell in love with Le Petit Roulet, a Provençal farmhouse near Avignon, not far from our country home. I loved the idea of having different parts of the wedding in various locations, never staying in the same spot. The ceremony and party took place in this grand hall with an impressive ceiling height, dinner in a quintessential Provençal courtyard under the trees, and brunch by the pool. The stone building was full of charm, perfect for creating the feeling of a family home where we had invited our extended family.
The Ceremony
The ceremony was beautiful, filled with emotion. What more can be said, other than that the heartfelt words from our friends, spoken with such tenderness, will forever be etched in our hearts—along with the words we exchanged with each other. We wanted a secular ceremony and dreamed of entrusting it to our two friends, Gabrielle and Julien, who were fantastic celebrants, guiding us from laughter to tears.
The Reception
The dinner was exactly as we had hoped—magnificent, full of joy and spontaneous dancing. We decided on a lavish Mediterranean buffet, with a strong focus on vegetarian dishes. There were homemade focaccias, beef tataki with ponzu sauce and raspberries, sea bream carpaccio marinated in lemon, passion fruit, and dill, roasted apricots and peaches with ricotta and pistachios, honey-glazed confit eggplant and roasted carrots, burrata, and so much more. It was absolutely delicious, and the guests were full of praise. For dessert, we served a giant pavlova topped with red berries.
The Special Touches
The special touches? I’d say the little Mexican ex-votos we had collected and offered as small gifts for the guests, which they could tie around their wrists or keep with them. I’m truly passionate about these metal objects that symbolize protection for the people we love. I collect them on my walls at home, so it was another personal detail that reflected who we are. I didn’t want to give a typical wedding favor that you might find at any other wedding.
Our Favorite Moment
It’s hard to choose just one favorite moment, but I think the one that will remain etched in our minds and hearts is when eight of our friends, whose train from Paris had been canceled, decided to rent a van and drive eight hours just to make it in time for dinner. When they arrived, all the wedding guests were waiting for them in the parking lot, cheering and dancing. It was one of the most beautiful acts of love we could have ever received.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
For both weddings (the one in Paris and the one in the South), my main dresses were from Inbal Dror. If I focus on the wedding in the South, it was an absolutely stunning lace gown—very sheer, yet just modest enough to remain elegant. My initial vision was inspired by the Dolce & Gabbana style: the Italian woman, the Madonna. Almost tragic, yet wildly sensual, accentuating my curves. I also wore a veil for my entrance and carried a very simple bouquet. My shoes were hidden, so I opted for nude-colored sandals with delicate straps. My evening gown was a pearl-colored dress from House of CB, which I accessorized with a pearl necklace, a short veil, and Gucci shoes. For the brunch, I wore a very flowy dress from Datt.
The Groom Looks
My husband wore an oversized suit by Jacquemus, and to break away from a too conventional look, he paired it with a white t-shirt and Air Force 1s. To accessorize, he added an earring from a Parisian brand we love, Anne-Lise Michelson.
Our Advice
For The Planning Process
Being open to asking for help from those around us is essential, especially for someone like me who wants everything to be perfect. It’s also important to plan ahead, as organizing in a rush is very challenging and can lead to less than ideal choices.
For On The Day
Having a wonderful person like my wedding coordinator, Kalki, who genuinely cares makes all the difference. It’s crucial to focus on the moment and not to fixate on details that no one will notice.
For Post-Wedding
Having a moment just for the two of us and taking the time to unwind was essential. We were at the Hôtel de Capelongue next to Bonnieux, and it was fabulous.
