Inspired by the colors, textures, and slow romance of Mexico, Morocco, Italy, and France, Irene and Sam created a wedding that transported guests somewhere entirely unexpected. Their celebration began with a candlelit Greek Orthodox ceremony before moving to Redleaf Wollombi, where the countryside became the backdrop for an immersive alfresco weekend infused with European charm. Every detail was thoughtfully curated, from sculptural florals and blush-striped drapery to a custom pink-carpeted floor, wave-shaped tables, and playful design moments that blurred the line between art installation and celebration. Irene wore two bespoke gowns, each reflecting a different side of her style — timeless, modern, and effortlessly elegant. Rather than following tradition, the couple prioritized connection, creating space for long lunches, live music, Greek dancing, and meaningful moments shared with family and friends. The result was a wedding that felt sophisticated without ever losing its warmth — a celebration where thoughtful design, heartfelt storytelling, and joyful hospitality came together in perfect harmony.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
Sam and I first met around eight years ago when we were both living in Coogee and attending the same gym. We became friends through the group classes but eventually lost touch for a couple of years. After a brief conversation on Instagram (and maybe a few heart-eyed emojis), we decided to meet for a drink at the Coogee Pavilion. After hours of belly laughs and a few too many shots, it quickly turned into the best first date. As we parted ways that night, I texted one of my friends, "I'm going to marry this man." It may have seemed a little premature at the time, but as it turns out, I was right.
The Proposal
Byron Bay was one of the first places we traveled to when we started dating. After spending time with Sam's sister and her family in Tweed Heads, we decided to stay in Byron Bay for a few nights over New Year's to welcome 2024. We made a pact that we would wake up for sunrise on New Year's Day and do the lighthouse walk. After almost derailing Sam's plan (more than once), we eventually made it to the top. Once we did, Sam handed me a letter he had written. By the time I got to the end, Sam was on one knee. On a beautifully overcast morning, at the top of the lighthouse, I said yes. We celebrated the rest of the day with spa treatments at The Banya and lunch at Frida's Field. It really was the perfect day.
The Engagement Ring
The first time I saw the design of my ring, I instantly knew it was exactly what I wanted. Sam and I never actually went ring shopping together, although I may have dropped a few (or a few hundred!) hints over the years for when the time was right. I'd always imagined having something a little different. My mom's engagement ring features a beautiful curved setting, and I knew I wanted something with a similar feel.
Our Wedding
The Vision
Inspired by memories from Mexico, Morocco, Italy, and France, our wedding brought the spirit of our travels to life through an immersive and deeply personal design. Working closely with FOLA Styling, every detail was thoughtfully considered, creating a celebration where design became storytelling and each element reflected a chapter of our journey. The result was a dreamlike interpretation of my mood board, where nature, architecture, and artistry came together in perfect harmony. A palette of blush tones, vibrant pinks, expressive patterns, sculptural florals, pinstriped drapery, a custom pink-carpeted floor, and theatrical lighting transformed Redleaf into a playful yet sophisticated world, with every detail carefully curated to create a truly unforgettable experience.
Our Team of Vendors
We were incredibly fortunate to have Viv and the FOLA Styling team bring our dream wedding to life. From start to finish, Viv and her team worked tirelessly to create a day that exceeded every expectation, and we are so grateful for their dedication, creativity, and attention to detail. Through FOLA Styling, we were also connected with some truly exceptional partners. A special mention to The Make Haus—I am still in awe of the magic they created. Their vision, talent, and execution are simply unmatched.
I'm also still struggling to find the words to describe how incredible the photos and videos captured by Petter Karlström and Josh Simpson from Joyride are. I knew it was the happiest weekend of our lives, but seeing those moments preserved so beautifully has been overwhelming in the best possible way. The images and footage truly speak for themselves. They are absolute legends and extraordinarily talented at what they do. Our guests are still raving about the food. Thank you, Pepi's, for serving the yummiest, most delicious food that tied back perfectly to our vision. A huge thank you to everyone.
The Location
In 2023, Sam and I visited Tuscany and stayed at Borgo Pignano. From the moment we arrived, I knew I wanted an Italian alfresco-style wedding. I'm incredibly fortunate to still have all four of my grandparents, and it would have been difficult for them all to travel to Italy. So, we started thinking: what's the closest thing to Italy, right here on our doorstep? That's when we found Redleaf Wollombi. We visited the venue and instantly fell in love. With its breathtaking backdrop and endless potential to make the space our own, we knew it was exactly what we were looking for. Redleaf was the first and only venue we visited.
The Ceremony
Being Greek Orthodox, we were married in our family church, St. Spyridon. Inspired in part by my sister's beautiful twilight ceremony, we chose an evening service, and it became one of my favorite moments of the entire weekend. Walking into a candlelit church and seeing Sam waiting for me at the end of the aisle felt like a dream, and there was something so romantic about promising each other forever in that setting.
Having our nieces, Alexis, Beaux, and Remi, along with our godchildren, Leo and Marcus, walk down the aisle made the ceremony even more meaningful. And if I'm being completely honest, Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy's iconic evening church wedding certainly helped convince me that a candlelit ceremony was the perfect choice. We then continued the celebration at Shell House in Sydney CBD, eating, drinking, and celebrating the night away.
The Cocktail Hour
We wanted to make the most of Redleaf's beautiful grounds during cocktail hour, so we chose not to have a second ceremony on the Saturday. It meant we could be fully present with our guests, soaking up a perfect sunny winter's afternoon that, for a moment, felt just like the Tuscan countryside. With formalities kept to a minimum and live music by Seani and his team, it was one of the most relaxed and joyful parts of the weekend.
One of our favorite details was the custom seating chart, created by FOLA Styling, The Make Haus, and Messina. More than a place to find your seat, it was an interactive installation, with each guest's seating assignment presented as an edible chocolate tile inspired by artisanal confectionery. It became a real talking point—and who can say no to chocolate?
The Reception
We wanted the marquee to reflect both our travels and our story, creating a space that felt romantic, immersive, and uniquely ours. Wrapped in blush-striped drapery with tonal pink flooring, sculptural florals, and layered textures, it transformed into an intimate yet striking setting inspired by the charm of a European bistro.
Every detail was thoughtfully considered in collaboration with FOLA Styling and our creative partners—from the bespoke floor plan and wave-shaped tables dressed in mauve velvet to cascading florals, seasonal fruit, and pleated lamps. Affectionately named Bistro Bradley—a nod to my new surname—it became the heart of the celebration, where hospitality, storytelling, and design came together beautifully.
The Special Touches
You can't have a Greek wedding without smashing a few plates. Traditionally, it's done as an expression of joy and celebration, as well as to ward off evil spirits. It was such a fun moment during the night, and it was incredible. Sam and I come from very different backgrounds, and it meant so much to us to create a space where both of our worlds could come together to celebrate each other's cultures and traditions.
Our Favorite Moment
Our entrance into the marquee reception is a moment I'll cherish forever. Our dear friend and DJ, HUTCHER, created an incredible remix that perfectly captured our shared love of garage and dance music, and the adrenaline of that moment was unforgettable. We also loved kicking off the celebration with Greek dancing—seeing all our family and friends, especially our non-Greek guests, joining in for the Kalamatianos brought so much joy to the evening.
Above all, having all five of our grandparents there to celebrate with us was the greatest gift. Sharing such a special day with them—especially Sam's grandmother, who traveled all the way from London—is something we'll treasure forever. They have each played such an important role in shaping who we are, and having them by our side made the celebration even more meaningful.
Our Style
The Bridal Looks
Both my ceremony and reception dresses were custom-made by Corston Couture. Coral was incredible. I had two very different visions, and she brought them to life, creating my perfect dresses. I never had a "dream dress" in mind, and to be honest, the dress was the part of the planning process I put off the longest because I felt so overwhelmed. I absolutely love both of my dresses, and I think they reflect my personal style while still feeling timeless.
The Groom Looks
Sam wore P. Johnson for both celebrations. He opted for a black tuxedo for the ceremony and an ivory jacket for the reception.
Our Advice
For the Planning Process
Stay true to your vision and choose vendors who genuinely understand and align with your style. Wedding planning can become overwhelming very quickly, and it's easy to get caught up in the details and lose sight of what the day is really about. Working with FOLA Styling was one of the best decisions we made. Viv and the team were truly incredible, and I'm so grateful for their guidance and support throughout the entire process. For me, having a wedding planner is non-negotiable. It allows you to enjoy the lead-up to your wedding instead of worrying about all the behind-the-scenes logistics. The day itself goes by so quickly, so having the freedom to slow down, be present, and soak in every moment is something you'll never regret.
For On The Day
Just be present. It truly is one of the best days of your life, so soak it all in and enjoy every moment with your nearest and dearest. Sam and I spent the whole Saturday morning together, and it was honestly perfect. We were all at the house having breakfast, dancing, laughing, and simply soaking up the excitement of the day ahead. We separated before our official first look, but because we had technically been married on Thursday, we wanted to spend as much of the day together as possible. We simply did what felt right for us, and that's the best advice I can give. Don't get too caught up in traditions or the "rules." It's your day, so make it exactly what you want it to be.
For Post-Wedding
The day after the wedding, we welcomed family and friends back to Redleaf before enjoying a family lunch at Krinklewood with our immediate family. We chose not to have a formal recovery party since we had already celebrated over three incredible days. On Monday, Sam and I left Wollombi and headed straight to Thailand for our mini-moon. It was fabulous!
