Nestled in the heart of Chianti, at a private castle steeped in history and surrounded by rolling vineyards, Anthea and Arthur’s wedding was a masterclass in modern romance with an old-world soul. Held at the groom’s family home - a medieval gem that framed a celebration that was nothing short of cinematic. Designed by the bride herself, every detail was a reflection of Anthea’s refined, fashion-forward vision: think flowing silk fabrics and dreamy calligraphic touches, all woven together with a sense of timeless elegance and that unmistakable Italian chic. Guests gathered poolside for a cocktail hour, serenaded by vintage Italian tunes, before dining on the villa’s candlelit terrace. It was a scene straight out of a Tuscan fairytale – romantic, effortless, and endlessly stylish. Anthea floated through it all in a Danielle Frankel gown, bringing her bridal vision to life with a look that was equal parts ethereal and editorial.
Our Love Story
The Day We Met
We met on the dance floor at a festival in Romania. Funny enough, I – Anthea – am half Romanian, and my Romanian mother thinks it's incredibly special. She says it was meant to be. It wasn’t love at first sight, but there was a friendly spark. Two years later, we were set up by mutual friends — and we fell in love in no time.
The Proposal
In November 2023, we went to Bali together for a holiday. Art had a few DJ gigs there, so we turned it into a long trip. After all the parties in Canggu, we arrived at our resort in Ubud to relax. I had no clue what was coming. When we were welcomed with rose petals for the third time at our couple’s massage, I even joked, “This is starting to feel like a proposal, haha.” Then, after our massage, we walked back to our villa — and there were rose petals again. I laughed, “Again with the rose petals, haha,” until Art pointed out what they spelled this time: “A&A forever.” That’s when he got down on one knee. My best friend flew in from the Netherlands three hours later, and the three of us ended up celebrating with champagne until 2 a.m., euphoric.
The Engagement Ring
Once, I said I’d love to get married before turning 30 — and that the diamond needed to be oval. So when the time came, Art texted his friend, who had a great diamond contact in the U.S. He asked my best friend for advice and chose a natural, 1.7 ct oval diamond on a white gold band. It was perfect.
Our Wedding
The Vision
As someone who works in event styling, designing my own wedding truly felt like a dream come true. I finally had the opportunity to bring to life something I had envisioned for so long. There wasn’t a strict theme — it was more about evoking a feeling. A sense of romance, timeless elegance, and that old Italian chic charm with a modern twist: silk fabrics, delicate tassels, and calligraphic fonts. Aesthetics that felt personal, warm, and refined.
Our Team of Vendors
This was actually the third wedding in Art’s family to be held at De Torre, so we were already familiar with part of the team. Our local wedding planners, Simona & Sveva from Tie The Knot, were absolutely wonderful. Catering was handled by Galateo (yes — the same Galateo that catered Kim & Kanye’s wedding!), and the custom-made linens were lovingly created by my sister-in-law, Henriette van Marle. Our florist, Annalisa, was a dream to work with — incredibly creative and completely aligned with my vision from the start.
The Location
The wedding itself took place at Arthur’s family home — a medieval building called Torre di Grignano. His parents have owned it for many years. Since we started dating, Art brought me there often, and I fell in love with it all. The estate has its own vineyard, where they produce wine and olive oil, a saltwater pool, and a tennis court. The Chianti region, their family home, Panzano, and Dario’s are some of my favorite places to escape to. It’s also where our love unfolded. Celebrating there, surrounded by our loved ones, felt like everything had come full circle.
The Ceremony
The ceremony took place among the vineyards, where our best man — and also our master of ceremonies — Mike Samson officiated.
The Cocktail Hour
Cocktail hour was hosted around the pool, accompanied by classic Italian tunes. Galateo served oysters on ice, aged Parmigiano Reggiano, and thinly sliced prosciutto — all paired with perfectly balanced Negronis.
We also had speeches from our best men, Thijs Huiskamp and Charro-Nathan Tanamal.
The Reception
Dinner was served on the terrace beside the house, where Galateo prepared a beautiful three-course meal alongside speeches from our dads, Art’s sister, and Art himself. We ended the night with a party in the courtyard, featuring DJ sets by AGLSS, resident of DC10 and CircoLoco.
The Special Touches
We had monogrammed linen napkins at both dinner and aperitivo hour, lovingly made by my sister-in-law Henriette. They featured a custom A&A logo designed by Every Form of Poetry. We also created custom fans and menus, finished with elegant black silk tassels for an extra touch of detail. Our flower girl and page boy were Art’s niece and nephew, which made it even more special.
Our Favorite Moment
It was the moment I walked down the stairs and saw Art standing there. We had talked about that moment for years, and it turned out exactly the way we had imagined it. We were both instantly overcome with emotion and tears.
Our Style
The Bride & Groom's Looks
I wore a gown by Danielle Frankel. I discovered it years ago on Pinterest and saved it to my favorites, never imagining I’d actually wear it. When the time came, I found out the gown was discontinued. I called and emailed every stockist I could find. Finally, Printemps in Paris called — they had one left, in my size. I jumped in the car with my two best friends and drove to Paris to pick it up. I paired it with white Manolo Blahnik kitten heels.
Art wore a tuxedo by Oger, styled with a tailor-made shirt and shoes from a local Florentine tailor.
Bridesmaids & Groomsmen
I let my bridesmaids choose their own dresses — I wanted them to feel comfortable (one was also pregnant). They wore black, red, or orange silk and draped dresses. They looked beautiful. All the men wore tuxedos — very sexy.
Our Advice
For the Planning Process
Start early with moodboarding, finding your venue, and securing key vendors. Everything moves faster than you think, and suddenly, the big day is around the corner. Most importantly, enjoy the process — you might miss it once it’s over.
For On The Day
Take a few moments to step away from the crowd — just the two of you. Ask your photographer or bridal party to gently pull you aside now and then, so you can soak it all in together and watch your wedding unfold from a quiet distance.
For Post-Wedding
Plan a honeymoon in advance — or at least stay a bit longer wherever you are. Give yourselves time to unwind and reflect on the weekend before heading back to reality.
