We’ll always have a soft spot for a château or a villa, but every once in a while, a different kind of venue catches our attention. And lately, it’s stone quarries. These former industrial sites are slowly finding a second life as wedding venues, and it’s easy to see why. As far as wedding venue requirements go, they tick a surprising number of boxes. Open-air setting? Check. Plenty of room? Check. Endless ways to make it your own? Check. And beyond just the practicalities, the towering stone walls make for a pretty incredible backdrop without much help.
They may not be the first place that comes to mind when you think of a wedding venue, but that’s also kind of the point. There’s something pretty special about celebrating somewhere that feels completely unexpected. So, if stone quarries have officially made their way into your wedding venue search, then our work here is done. Almost...Here are 10 stone quarry wedding venues to have on your radar.

Carrières des Lumières
If there’s one venue that makes it easy to understand our current quarry fixation, it’s Carrières des Lumières located in Provence, France. The former limestone quarry is now an immersive art space, known for exhibitions that project artwork across its enormous stone walls. For a wedding, that opens up some pretty interesting possibilities with lighting and projections, especially once the sun goes down. There’s plenty of room to go big with the décor, but the space is impressive enough that you really don’t have to. Chanel even staged its 2021 Cruise show here, if that gives you some idea of what can be done with it. We’ve seen Carrières des Lumières popping up more and more in weddings lately, and it’s easily one of the venues at the top of our list.

Cava Puglia
If your idea of a dream wedding in Puglia involves pale stone, olive trees and dinner under the open sky, Cava Puglia gives you all of that—just in a setting you might not expect. Set within a restored quarry in the countryside near Ostuni, the venue feels a little rawer than the region’s traditional masserie. The space is now used exclusively for events, so there’s plenty of freedom to make it your own. Then again, the stone walls do a lot of the work here, with ancient olive trees growing throughout the space. But our favorite part might be what happens after dinner. There’s a natural cave tucked into the property that can be used for the after-party. Not a bad place to keep things going once the sun goes down.

Lithica
As if Menorca needed another reason to be high on our destination wedding list, it also happens to be home to Lithica, a sprawling complex of former limestone quarries. The spaces used for events have a beautifully stripped-back feel, with much of the original quarry left to speak for itself. You could certainly go big with the design here (there’s more than enough space to work with), but some of our favorite celebrations have done the exact opposite. A single table against the stone, very little décor, projections across the walls once it gets dark. Call it chic, call it minimalism— we call it knowing when to let the venue speak for itself.

Le Cave del Timo Selvatico
Sicily hardly needs an introduction when it comes to destination weddings, but Le Cave del Timo Selvatico gives us one more reason to consider it. Located just outside Noto, the quarry feels a little wilder than some of the others on this list. Greenery grows against the pale stone walls, giving the whole space a more natural, almost untouched feel. There’s some history here, too. The limestone once quarried from the site was used to build some of Noto’s churches and palaces. Today, those same walls have become the backdrop for open-air weddings and events.
The Quarry Venue
Europe isn’t the only place with stone quarry venues worth knowing about. Over in Knoxville, Tennessee, The Quarry Venue gives us a stateside option. And considering Knoxville was nicknamed “The Marble City” back in the late 1800s, it feels like a pretty fitting one. The venue itself was once the working Bond Quarry before becoming a family-owned wedding and event space in 2012. The original quarry walls are still very much part of the setting, but what really makes this one stand out is that you’re not limited to the quarry itself. There are indoor and outdoor spaces to work with, giving you a little more flexibility when planning the day. Basically, you get the drama of a quarry without having to build an entire venue around it.

Dionyssomarble Quarry
If you’re the type of couple whose plus-ones are getting a plus-one, or “keeping it intimate” was never really an option, good news: Dionyssos Quarry can handle it. Located on Mount Penteli, just outside Athens, it’s actually still a working marble quarry, but it also doubles as an event space. Dionyssomarble, the company behind it, calls Dionyssos its flagship venue—and this one was definitely built for a crowd. It’s hosted everything from major music events to fashion shows, with the marble walls giving the space some pretty incredible acoustics. And if that sounds like a little more space than you need, Dionyssomarble has other quarry venues around Greece. Granitis is specifically positioned as one of their more intimate options, while Tinos has green marble and views over the Aegean.

Son Ferrer d'en Vola Vola
Mallorca has become a favorite for destination weddings, but if the usual finca isn’t quite your thing, there’s another option. Son Ferrer d'en Vola Vola is a former marès stone quarry in Sant Jordi, not far from Palma, that’s now used exclusively for weddings and events. It’s very much a blank canvas, with the old quarry walls framing the open-air space. And while there’s plenty of room to bring in your own design, we’d argue this is another one where the stone does a lot of the work for you. Proof there’s more than one way to do a Mallorca wedding.
Carrara Marble Quarries
Carrara works a little differently from the other venues on this list. There isn’t one designated quarry wedding venue to book. Instead, the famous marble landscape in Tuscany’s Apuan Alps is made up of numerous quarries, many of which are still active today. So, how exactly do you get married in one? Companies like The Marble Company Events can help arrange access to a quarry and turn it into a venue for the day. That means you’re starting with little more than the space itself, which leaves quite a lot up to you. And we’ve already seen just how good that can look. In 2025, the quarry Cava della Luna was transformed for a Giorgio Armani x Kith dinner, with long tables running through the quarry. So, if you need a little inspiration for what to do with all that space, you know where to look.

Rancho San Cristóbal
Okay, so technically we’re cheating a little with this one. Rancho San Cristóbal isn’t a quarry, but once you see the reception space tucked inside its natural rock canyon, you’ll understand why we’re letting it slide. Located in Los Cabos, Mexico, the property gives you two very different settings to work with: ceremonies can happen overlooking the Pacific, while dinner can move down into the canyon. And if the whole reason you’re considering a quarry in the first place is those towering rock walls, we’d say this gets pretty close.

Cave Bianche Hotel
Sicily has no shortage of beautiful places to get married, but Cave Bianche Hotel has something most of them don’t: it’s a hotel that’s also built inside a former quarry. Located on the island of Favignana, just off Sicily’s western coast, the small hotel still has those pale stone walls surrounding much of the property. Different parts of the property can then be used throughout the day, and there’s even a quarry amphitheatre for the cake cutting Basically, you get the quarry setting and a Sicilian island hotel all in one.
